Grosse Pointe War Memorial

The War Memorial is a nonprofit event venue and cultural institution set on the historic Alger Estate along Lake St. Clair in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan. Founded to honor those who served and to enrich its surrounding community, the organization marked its 75th anniversary in 2024 and welcomes approximately 100,000 visitors annually. For private events, the property offers a range of distinct spaces. The Fred M. Alger Center, which opened in 2022, houses a ballroom with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake, accommodating up to 250 guests, alongside a Community Room that extends celebrations by up to 200 more. The adjacent Historic Alger House — a preserved early-1900s family residence featuring hand-carved moldings, grand stone fireplaces, and French doors opening to the lakefront lawn — hosts intimate gatherings of up to 70 guests. The lakefront lawn and gardens, framed by Lake St. Clair, serves as a setting for ceremonies and open-air cocktail receptions of up to 400 guests. In-house catering and a full-service bar are available on site, led by Executive Chef Joe Paxton.
