About Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital
Built to serve Civil War sailors, the Old Naval Hospital eventually became a Hospital Corps training school, then an old solider’s home, and then office space for the D.C. government. By the early 2000's, the facility was neglected and ultimately abandoned. In 2002, community members stepped up to save the site, forming the Old Naval Hospital Foundation. Today, Hill Center is home to lectures, culinary and cultural events, private events, and outstanding artwork. The campus offers a historic venue for private events with modern amenities, including beautifully restored indoor rooms and lush garden areas—ideal for both small gatherings and larger functions. Centrally located by the Eastern Market Metro, Hill Center is a hub for social gatherings, weddings, parties, and cultural events! We welcome potential clients, caterers, and guests to visit Hill Center. Our venue offers both charm and character for moderately-scaled events.

- I want to book an event. Where do I start?
- Head to our website at HillCenterDC.org and fill out the "Get Started" form on our Private Events tab. Please provide as much information as possible so that we can quickly and accurately respond to your event.
- What is the capacity of Hill Center?
- Our indoor space accommodates up to 150 guests for seated events or 250 for standing receptions. Our full venue (indoor and outdoor space) accommodates up to 500 guests.

- Is Hill Center close to transportation and Washington's national landmarks?
- Super convenient! We are nine blocks from the U.S. Capitol, one block from Eastern Market Metro, and central to Reagan National Airport, The Wharf, Union Station, Nationals Park, and Navy Yard.
- Does the venue have an approved or preferred caterer list?
- We have a preferred caterer list that we share with clients who have signed a contract and provided a security deposit.
