Historical Society of Wells & Ogunquit

The Historical Society of Wells and Ogunquit stewards the history of two coastal Maine towns from a landmark 1862 Meetinghouse on Route 1 in Wells. The building — an intact example of Gothic Revival architecture listed on the National Register of Historic Places — has anchored the site since 1662 and houses the organization's museum and research library alongside a program of exhibits and community events. The Meetinghouse is available to rent for weddings and ceremonies. Its light-filled sanctuary accommodates 225 to 250 seated guests along two aisles, and the space retains original nineteenth-century features including wood floors, a vintage pump organ, chandeliers, and an electronic keyboard. Because the building operates as a historic property rather than a house of worship, there are no denomination restrictions. On-site parking in the driveway is supplemented by an adjacent lot.
