Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden is a 400-acre public botanical garden in Kāneʻohe, on the windward side of Oʻahu, built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1982 and managed by the City and County of Honolulu. Its name means "to make a place of peace and tranquility," and the garden lives up to it: a 32-acre lake, Loko Waimaluhia, sits beneath the dramatic Ko'olau mountain ridgeline, surrounded by plantings gathered from tropical regions worldwide — the Philippines, Malaysia, tropical America, India, Sri Lanka, Melanesia, Polynesia, and Africa. The garden hosts outdoor wedding ceremonies for up to 50 guests, with permits available through the Department of Parks and Recreation. Ceremonies are held Monday through Saturday during garden hours. The setting pairs lush tropical foliage with sweeping mountain views for a distinctly Hawaiian backdrop that no ballroom can replicate.
