Hopsewee Plantation is an 18th-century rice plantation house on the North Santee River in South Carolina's Lowcountry, between Myrtle Beach and Charleston. Built around 1740, the main house is a National Historic Landmark and the birthplace of Thomas Lynch, Jr., a signer of the Declaration of Independence — a history that gives the setting a rare sense of occasion for weddings and private events. The home retains its original character, with a black cypress structure, heart-pine flooring, hand-carved molding, and wide center halls on each floor. The grounds sit along the river beneath centuries-old live oaks draped in Spanish moss, with wooded trails and multiple outdoor ceremony locations for couples planning a wedding. The River Oak Cottage Tea Room serves as the venue's dining and catering space, hosting seated dinners, showers, and rehearsal dinners, with alfresco dining available on the grounds for additional guests. All catering is prepared on-site in Hopsewee's professional kitchen, and wedding rentals include use of the historic plantation house for the bridal party to dress, a parquet dance floor, and tables, linens, and chairs.
