Jackson Zoo

The Jackson Zoo has called Livingston Park home since 1921, occupying 110 acres in Jackson, Mississippi. Originally established in 1919, the zoo has grown into an AZA-accredited zoological park housing more than 70 species and 160 animals, including 11 endangered species. Its exhibits span the African Rainforest, African Savannah, Asian Garden, and Wilderness Mississippi across more than 34 active parkland acres, and the Gertrude C. Ford Education Center anchors additional programming space on the grounds. The zoo participates in 20 Species Survival Programs and draws approximately 85,000 visitors annually — over 90 percent of them families with children. Managed by the City of Jackson Parks & Recreation since 2019, the zoo has been a part of Jackson's community fabric for more than a century.
