Set on Monticello's Kenwood campus, the Jefferson Library is the first free-standing library built to honor the study of a single American founder. Home to the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies, the 15,500-square-foot building was designed to complement the historic Kenwood house and centers on a contemporary reading room with a two-story semicircular bay window. The Robert H. and Clarice Smith Reading Room hosts dinners, scholarly talks, and receptions among more than 40,000 volumes on Jefferson's life and early American history. For smaller meetings, the library also offers the Berkeley Room, a state-of-the-art board room with audio-visual equipment and teleconferencing for up to 22 guests; the Trustees Room, a smaller conference space seating up to 10; and the adjacent Nichols Room, an intimate space suited to small lunches or as a breakout room. Guest capacities across the library's spaces range from 10 to 100, with onsite event, security, and custodial staff on hand, tables and chairs provided, and an exclusive on-site caterer handling food, beverage, and rental needs. Guests can also arrange private tours of the library's collections, and ample on-site parking is available.
