Killens Pond Nature Center

Killens Pond Nature Center is a LEED Silver-certified event facility set within Killens Pond State Park in Kent County, Delaware. Designed by GWWO Architects and recognized with AIA Delaware and AIA Baltimore design awards, the building sits at the transition between hardwood forest and a 75-acre pond — hovering at the water's edge and connecting interior spaces to the surrounding landscape through wide expanses of glass. The two-level center offers distinct gathering environments suited to meetings and celebrations alike. The upper level meeting room overlooks Killens Pond and opens onto an observation deck, while the lower level leads directly to a small amphitheater at the pond's edge. A separate exhibit area features a live collection of native reptiles and amphibians, adding an educational dimension uncommon in typical event venues. The building's sustainable design is itself a conversation piece: a visible rainwater recovery cistern, geothermal heating and cooling, and on-site wastewater treatment reflect the center's commitment to the landscape it inhabits. Audio/visual equipment is available on-site, and the facility is fully accessible. Full Nature Center rentals (evenings only) accommodate up to 150 guests.
