Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment occupies a 190,000-square-foot historic textile mill on 12 acres in Huntsville, Alabama, and holds the distinction of being the largest privately owned arts and entertainment facility in the United States. Originally built in 1901 as a cotton mill and later converted into a shoe factory, the complex was reimagined as a working arts center in 2006. Today it is home to 153 artist studios, seven galleries, a theatre, a community garden, and multiple performance and event venues — all within the mill's original brick and timber industrial architecture. Six rentable event spaces across the grounds accommodate gatherings ranging from intimate workshop sessions of 40 guests to standing receptions of more than 700 in the historic First Floor Connector. Indoor options include the Second Floor Theatre, the UAH Project Space, and curated gallery rooms; outdoor options include the West Patio and the expansive surrounding grounds. Every event takes place against the backdrop of active creative studios and rotating gallery exhibitions, offering a setting unlike conventional event halls. The venue's iconic water tower and original mill facades provide a distinctive visual identity, while the on-site arts community gives the space an energy that reflects Huntsville's growing creative scene.
