The Maryland Center for History and Culture is Maryland's oldest continuously operating cultural institution, founded in 1844 as the Maryland Historical Society. Located in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore, the center houses a museum, library, and archives spanning more than 7 million books, documents, manuscripts, photographs, and 350,000 museum objects — making it one of the largest collections of Maryland history in existence. The center has hosted private events for more than 180 years, welcoming weddings, corporate gatherings, nonprofit fundraisers, and family celebrations across its mix of indoor and outdoor spaces. The building features two outdoor courtyards, a versatile auditorium and theater, meeting rooms, and the main reception hall, France Hall — a restored historic space suited to seated dinners and standing receptions alike. Museum galleries remain accessible to guests during events, offering an immersive backdrop rooted in Maryland's past. The center is ADA accessible and offers on-site parking, in-house A/V equipment, and exclusive catering arrangements.
