Massie Heritage Center occupies a Greek Revival building completed in 1856 on Taylor Square in downtown Savannah — the oldest continuously operating educational facility in the city and a property listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Designed by architect John Norris, the building served as a public school for 118 years before being converted into a museum and heritage interpretation center operated by the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. Today, the center functions as Savannah's museum for history and architecture, with six galleries covering local history, urban planning, maritime heritage, and architecture. For events, the center offers its Maritime Gallery and landscaped courtyard to host weddings, small conferences, business meetings, and receptions. The courtyard, surrounded by mature trees, lush foliage, and brick walls, is particularly suited for intimate garden ceremonies and outdoor receptions. The venue's location in the National Historic Landmark District places it within easy reach of Savannah's famous squares, historic sites, and hotels.
