Portage Country Club

Founded in 1894, Portage Country Club ranks among the top ten oldest clubs in America — an institution born during Akron's rubber industry boom that has operated continuously for more than a century. The Tudor-style clubhouse, designed by Chicago architect Howard Shaw and formally opened in 1906, has been painstakingly preserved through two rebuilds after separate fires, each time restoring rather than replacing the original character. Private events at Portage are hosted in the Directors Room and the Ballroom, whose majestic views set the stage for wedding receptions, anniversary celebrations, corporate dinners, and milestone gatherings. The club's private rooms collectively accommodate up to 500 guests. An Executive Chef and pastry team design custom menus for each event, and a dedicated Events Manager guides clients through planning and vendor coordination from first inquiry through event day. The surrounding property — an 18-hole William Langford–designed golf course, six Har-Tru tennis courts, swimming facilities, and both formal and casual dining — gives guests a full club experience as the backdrop for any occasion.
