Salt Springs Park encompasses 842 acres of woodlands, streams, and meadows in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, roughly seven miles north of Montrose. Created on land once farmed by the Wheaton family, the park is maintained by the Friends of Salt Springs Park, a nonprofit founded in 1994 that manages the site in partnership with the Commonwealth — the only such arrangement among Pennsylvania's state parks. The grounds include nearly 15 miles of trails through gorges and old-growth hemlock forest, three waterfalls on Silver Creek, historic farm buildings, and the 1840s Wheaton House, which houses environmental and historical exhibits. For gatherings, the Williams Pavilion offers a covered, open-sided space with picnic tables, electricity, and grills, set beside an open field along Silver Creek. Built by volunteers in 2014, it hosts weddings, receptions, family reunions, and other celebrations, with room in the surrounding field for tents and additional seating. The park is open to the public every day of the year, sunrise to sunset, at no charge.
