Stenton is an 18th-century colonial mansion in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood, built and passed down through six generations of the Logan family beginning with James Logan, a prominent colonial figure and confidant of William Penn. The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in Pennsylvania has stewarded the property since 1899, and the City of Philadelphia has charged the organization with preserving Stenton as a National Historic Landmark. The house retains period rooms furnished with the Logan family's own collection, spanning William and Mary through Chippendale styles, along with early American textiles and a c.1730 portrait of James Logan attributed to Gustavus Hesselius displayed on the stair landing. Behind the mansion, a Colonial Revival garden offers a landscaped setting that reinterprets an 18th-century garden in the tradition of Deborah Logan's own stewardship. Beyond its exhibitions and educational programming, Stenton is available for private rentals, hosting customized tours, private parties, picnics, and photography and film shoots on its grounds. Renters have access to designated areas of the historic mansion and its landscaped grounds, set against the backdrop of one of Philadelphia's oldest surviving colonial estates.
