Sweeney's Saloon

Sweeney's Saloon occupies a building in Saint Paul's Cathedral Hill neighborhood that dates to 1886, when it opened as Sweeney's Dry Goods Store. Following Prohibition's repeal in 1933, the space became Tom's 96, where the Art Deco bar that still anchors the room today was installed. The building was purchased and restored in 1979 — the original exposed brick walls, oak floors, and tin ceiling were uncovered — and the Sweeney name returned to the sign out front. Today the saloon operates as a bar, restaurant, and private event venue. The Oak Room on the second floor offers a dedicated private bar, bartenders, and a stage area, accommodating up to 100 guests for a seated dinner or up to 200 for a cocktail reception. On the main floor, the Ashland Room is a semi-private space with a fireplace that seats up to 30 guests and accommodates up to 40 for a standing reception. The venue has hosted birthday parties, wedding receptions, concerts, comedy clubs, work socials, and celebrations of life.
