Built in 1899 and designed by the Denver firm Varian and Sterner, the Tears McFarlane House is an 8,700-square-foot Colonial Revival mansion situated on the north edge of Cheesman Park in Denver's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Designated as a Denver historic landmark in 1972 and listed as a National Historic Landmark in 1976, the property stands as one of the finest residential examples of the Colonial Revival style in Colorado. The mansion's interiors preserve notable original details, including a Tiffany stained glass window featuring a fall leaf motif in seven colors on the main staircase landing and a hallway mirror salvaged from the historic Windsor Hotel. The first floor offers elegant gathering spaces — the Parlor, with its hand-crafted bar and fireplace, and the adjoining Dining Room, with crown molding, custom chandeliers, and refinished hardwood floors — that together accommodate first-floor receptions for up to 75 guests. Below grade, the Lower Level Conference Room and the Executive Board Room serve smaller corporate meetings and private gatherings. An outdoor patio and park setting add further options for warm-weather events. The house does not provide in-house catering; clients arrange their own caterers or select from approved vendors, giving event planners broad latitude to personalize the experience.
