The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception stands as Atlanta's most historic church, originally built in 1848 to serve workers constructing the railroad that gave the city its name. One of the only original structures to survive the burning of Atlanta during the Civil War — spared after a direct appeal to General Sherman — the Shrine is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and continues to welcome couples from across the country and around the world to celebrate their marriages within its walls. The sanctuary is a dramatic setting for wedding ceremonies. A long center aisle anchors the processional, while soaring ceilings adorned with hand-painted artwork, classic marble altars, and stained glass windows that catch the sunlight create an atmosphere few Atlanta venues can match. The venue's magnificent pipe organ, performed by the in-house Music Minister, sets the tone for the liturgy. The standard wedding package includes use of the building, on-site coordinators for the rehearsal and wedding day, the organist, facility maintenance, and clergy honorarium.
