The Historic Billings Depot

The Billings Depot is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit special events venue set within a historic rail campus on Montana Avenue in downtown Billings, Montana. Its mission is to preserve the historic depot buildings while contributing to the spirit and vitality of the surrounding community — sustained through facility rentals, donations, and building leases that fund ongoing restoration. Voted Billings' top event venue for seven consecutive years and recognized as a Certified Autism Center™, the Depot hosts weddings, corporate conferences, fundraisers, recitals, and private celebrations of every scale. Two principal event spaces anchor the main building. The Passenger Station accommodates up to 125 for seated dinners and 200 for cocktail receptions in a room marked by vaulted ceilings, Roman columns, and terrazzo flooring, served by a built-in Bose surround-sound system with wireless microphones and connected to a 1,500-square-foot outdoor courtyard. The Baggage Room, at 3,948 square feet, hosts up to 300 guests across original white brick walls and hardwood floors, with a six-zone sound system and a wire-grid ceiling suited for custom lighting and décor. Adjacent spaces include the Conference Room for groups of up to 25, The Post — a restored mailroom renovated in 2025 for gatherings of up to 50 — and The Caboose, a meticulously preserved 1917 rail car that serves as a private lounge for groups of up to eight. All main-building rentals include tables, chairs, room setup and breakdown, professional sound systems, catering kitchen access, and an on-site event coordinator.
