Westport Historical Society

Founded in 1889, the Westport Museum for History and Culture — originally established as the Westport Historical Society — is an independent nonprofit museum housed in a Colonial structure built around 1795, later expanded with an Italianate addition in 1865. The building, situated at 25 Avery Place in Westport, Connecticut, carries more than two centuries of architectural and civic history, making it a genuinely distinctive setting for private events. The museum offers one-of-a-kind event space rentals set against that historic backdrop. Past events have included intimate dinners, birthday celebrations, bridal showers, and creative workshops — occasions where the warmth and character of the historic building become part of the experience itself. Rental fees directly support the museum's nonprofit mission of preserving and sharing Connecticut's history.
