About Jim Altamore

Jim Altamore is a talented vocalist of popular standards from the Great American Songbook, which is now known as the Great American Songbook Collection. Jim grew up in Brooklyn during a period when Rock and Roll was revolutionizing the music industry. He graduated from high school with honors. While his family admired the authentic American music of Jazz and Swing, they also kept him in contact with great vocalists like as Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Tony Bennett, and the swinging music of Count Basie. Jim's indoctrination into the world of music got off to a good start... and it didn't alter! Jim's journey to becoming a vocalist was long and winding. Despite his passion for music, he never performed in front of an audience when he was younger. He had no idea that his voice was out of the usual until someone pointed it out to him. Consequently, after graduating from college, Jim went into the 9 to 5 world of business...but he maintained a connection with the music industry by working for a few record companies. Thanks to the kindness of strangers, Jim came across several jazz musicians who inspired him to pursue his ambition of being a professional vocalist. He put in a lot of hours on his trade and ultimately announced to the public that he was ready to perform for them. And he's been doing it ever since, leading large bands and jazz ensembles over the country. Jim has performed all over the world, including a series of performances in France in honor to Frank Sinatra, and has collaborated with a variety of musicians, including Diana Ross and Spyro Gyra. "A Bronx Tale," in which he performed Sinatra's version of "Fly Me to the Moon," marked his Broadway debut as Sinatra's voice in "A Bronx Tale." Jim's debut CD, "License to Swing," had him performing with a sextet and interpreting some of the greatest American standards. A 40-piece orchestra, led by Jim Altamore, joyfully praises Sinatra and his contribution to the world of music on his CD, "Jim Altamore celebrates Sinatra with the Côte Ouest Orchestra Live in France."
