Katie Powers Catering is a caterer based in San Francisco, California. Hi. My name is Katie Powers, and I'm from the United Kingdom. I live and cook in Marin County, California, where I also raise my family and provide cuisine to my clients. It is one of the most beautiful places in the state of California. However, I was born and reared in the city of Newport Beach. Cooking for one's family and running a food business were, as they are now, inextricably linked. Peppers were my father's business. I'm not exaggerating. There were a lot of them in the house. There were also a lot of individuals there. When I was growing up, my parents were both professional entertainers, and they were constantly organizing events for family and friends, with food always being the main attraction. My academic schooling began at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, but my real training began in the kitchen at Newport Beach's Aubergine, where I worked under Tim Goodell for several years. Later, when I returned to San Francisco, I continued working at Acquerello and, eventually, at Woodward's Garden, which is where I truly found my niche as a culinary professional. Here I learned to appreciate how local commodities make for local meals, and how raw foodstuffs from the region don't just serve as ingredients; they also act as inspiration for recipes and procedures at the most fundamental level. The more I studied about — and the more I grew to appreciate — the vast and diverse region known as Northern California, the more I desired to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. This led me to the Headlands Center for the Arts in Marin County, which was a turning point in my life. For three years, I provided nourishment to the center's diverse and inspiring mix of artists and staff. In the process, I learnt a great deal about the concept of a mess hall, as well as the idea of eating as a feast with no set beginning or finish. My upbringing had taught me to consider of the meal as the focal point of a dining experience, but I discovered at the Headlands that dining is actually the foundation for something else — for conversation, for community, and for life itself. That's when I decided to become the exclusive caterer for the Headlands. After concentrating on the cuisine of everyday life, I wanted to apply my knowledge to the food of life's exceptional occasions — to your special occasions, from weddings to family reunions.
