The proceeds from the Azalea Trail are used to support the following ongoing projects: Louise Stevenson, a founding member of the River Oaks Garden Club, was the driving force behind the organization's inception. When the Garden Club's first official meeting was held on October 27, 1927, it was attended by 29 members, and it marked the beginning of a thriving and growing organization that was eventually admitted into the Garden Club of America in 1938. The members of the club quickly gained knowledge in the areas of gardening, garden design, horticulture, and flower arranging, among other things. They used their newfound knowledge to encourage others to get involved in improving the planted environment in Houston. As a result of our desire to be closer to our children and grandkids, we closed the doors of our long-standing San Antonio-based business, Steve Heflin Architect/Builder (www.steveheflinhomes.com), and relocated to the Ft Worth region in 2011. The idea of a commercial venture that would bring together our talents in design, construction, décor, and hospitality sparked our imaginations, and we began daydreaming and planning for it. Our 35 years of marriage, combined with a sprinkling of supernatural guidance, may have prompted the notion of developing a wedding/event venue that was distinct in both style and beauty for our clients. We discovered a 21-acre farm just outside of historic Weatherford, TX, while searching the Fort Worth countryside. Beautiful trees, natural springs, and pasture area are all part of this estate, which has been in the family for 115 years. We began collecting architectural elements such as 300+ year old doors, gables, mirrors, tables, rustic wagons, gates, and benches from Texas and Santa Fe, using the same expertise and attention to detail Steve used in designing beautiful custom homes. These elements will be used in both a Country Chapel and an Event Center, which will be completed in 2018. This is where the journey begins! Construction began when the land was purchased, the move was completed, the designs were drafted, and the road was built. The Brooks at Weatherford, a new community in Weatherford, is taking shape one step at a time. Even as we cherish the opportunity to be near to our children and grandchildren, we are reminded and assured that marriage is worth the effort of remaining together and, more importantly, worth celebrating. Not only do we intend to provide a lovely setting for celebrations, but also a location where people want to hang out and enjoy themselves. In the next months, we anticipate a slew of festivities, new friends, and unforgettable experiences at The Brooks of Weatherford!!!

The Gatehouse Pavilion is one of the event spaces at Old Glory Ranch, a Texas Hill Country property along the Blanco River in Wimberley that has hosted weddings and events since 1997. Built for the do-it-yourself bride, the Pavilion suits smaller and more casual gatherings — wedding receptions, rehearsal dinners, and private parties for guest counts of 100 or fewer, at a more budget-conscious scale than the ranch's larger facilities. The approximately 36-by-60-foot space is outfitted with 10 handcrafted cedar tables and benches, a small kitchenette, two powder rooms, and a sitting/dressing room, along with a stereo system and wireless microphone for toasts and announcements. A large hand-laid stone fireplace with stained glass sidelights anchors the room. Outside of event hours, the Pavilion can also serve as a green room for performers or a childcare space during larger events elsewhere on the property. Old Glory Ranch has been owned by Suzanne and Charles McCord since 1984, and its event business grew from a single 1997 wedding into a full-service venue spanning more than 2,200 acres, with nearly two miles of Blanco River waterfront running through the property.
