  Le Bernardin, founded in 1972 in Paris by brothers Maguy and Gilbert Le Coze, only offered fish: fresh, simple, and prepared with respect. The Le Coze's intended to establish Le Bernardin in New York in 1986, after gaining its first Michelin star in 1976 and two more in 1980. Le Coze and Chef Eric Ripert announced the latest chapter in the restaurant's history in September 2011, with a major renovation by Bentel & Bentel. The new appearance includes a lounge, which is a first for the restaurant, with a different menu. Since then, the restaurant has won a James Beard Award for "Best Restaurant Design" in 2012 and a James Beard Award for "Outstanding Restaurateur" in 2013 for Le Coze, the first woman to be honored in the category.
