Given the dwindling number of turn-of-the-century textile mills, the Williamsons discovered, gathered, and organized several antiques from these mills, relocated an 1860s sharecropper cottage, and began the development and modification of the farm into a destination unlike any other. Laura's mother was a founding member of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), and both Carter and Laura have worked for the agency for a total of 60 years.
