It was no surprise when Houdini hurled the deck of cards to the ceiling, but no one anticipated one of the cards to become stuck to a beam. The Ace of Spades, on the other hand, did. It was the exact card that Houdini's host had selected from the deck and inserted just before Houdini launched them into the air before they were able to catch their breath. In honor of the host, C.D Stimson, a prominent member of Seattle's early business and social communities, the card was kept on display in his home for the following twenty years. Willows Lodge was his hunting camp, and it was where he spent much of his time. The Stimsons, as well as numerous other prominent families from Seattle, had country estates in the valley near the current location of Willows Lodge. They reportedly partied, relaxed, hunted ducks, and created substantial business concepts on a regular basis, according to reports. It felt appropriate to carry on the name and spirit of the old Willows Lodge with the new Willows Lodge. An extensive photo collection at the hotel's special event room depicts the early years of the valley's development. Although the current Lodge, which opened in September 2000, is open to the public and guests are more frequently looking for a nice bottle of wine than a duck, it remains a "country place" committed to superb meals, a warm fire, relaxation, romance, and inspiring business deals, among other things. People were encouraged to stay in touch with their tradition and informality by creating a venue that offered the highest degree of refinement in cuisine, comfort, aesthetics, and service while yet being connected to their past and informality.

Perched on a bluff above the Wenatchee Valley in Washington State, Ohme Gardens began in 1929 when Herman and Ruth Ohme set out to transform a barren, rock-strewn hillside into a series of alpine-inspired gardens. Over four decades of hand labor, the couple planted transplanted evergreens and hauled native stone from the Columbia River to build the pathways, pools, and waterfalls that still wind through the property. Since 1991 the Gardens have been publicly owned, and Chelan County now maintains them as a horticultural and recreational destination, open each year from April 15 through October 15. For weddings, Ohme Gardens supplies chairs and tables with set-up and take-down, white tablecloths, an arbor, a dance floor, string lighting, and a PA/sound system, letting couples arrange their own catering, music, and florals amid the gardens' cedar groves and panoramic Cascade views. The sunken and entrance lawns, both wheelchair accessible, can host evening weddings with receptions for up to 250 guests, or daytime ceremony-only gatherings for up to 85 guests, with two tented options available for cover in case of weather.

It seats up to 150 guests and holds a maximum capacity of 200, with an on-site kitchen, bridal suite, and groom's saloon supporting the reception. Red Barn Farms occupies a working century farm in the Palouse region of southeastern Washington, twelve miles south of Pullman. Established in 1901 by Christine and Florent Meyer, the property has passed through four generations of the same family; current stewards Ty and Kay Meyer converted the farm into an event venue in 2007. The centerpiece is the original barn, its timber frame built from fir harvested on nearby Moscow Mountain more than a century ago. Renovations added a new floor and foundation, repaired the original joists, and introduced lighting and indoor restrooms, while leaving the timber framing and barn wood exposed throughout the reception space. Cafe lights and lanterns hang overhead, and the barn's doors open onto a covered front patio that doubles as a second dance floor. Guests move from a terraced ceremony area overlooking the rolling hills, entered through the barn's grand double doors, into the barn itself for dinner and dancing, with an adjacent courtyard and patio extending the layout for cocktail hour, yard games, and larger gatherings. Four acres of landscaped grounds, including lavender and wheat fields, surround the buildings, and a separate structure called The Suites provides wedding-party preparation space, a kitchen, and meeting rooms.
