    Kirkbrae Country Club sits in Rhode Island's Blackstone Valley in Lincoln, about 15 minutes north of Providence. Established in 1961, the club's clubhouse opened in 2000 and went through full renovations in 2008 and again in 2020, when the events facility was redesigned by J. Brice Design International with Turkish light fixtures, custom wall sconces, and a neutral palette suited to a range of event styles. Guests gather in ballrooms with large windows overlooking the ever-changing Blackstone Valley landscape and one of the largest dance floors in New England. Kirkbrae's event spaces range from the 35-guest Charcoal Room, suited to intimate luncheons and anniversary dinners, up through the 380-guest Grand Ballroom for large weddings and corporate galas, with a tented patio, North Ballroom, and South Ballroom in between for showers, birthdays, and milestone events of varying sizes.     The Smith-Appleby House Museum is an 18th-century historic house in Smithfield, Rhode Island, built beginning in 1702 and home to seven generations of the Smith and Appleby families until 1959. The family's line traces back to John Smith, known as 'The Miller,' who emigrated from Massachusetts with Roger Williams in search of religious freedom. Inside, the house preserves soot-stained beams and time-worn hearthstones in its keeping room, decorative lambs tongue woodwork, and a chalk signature left by Hugh Whipple in October 1755. The Historical Society of Smithfield, founded in 1932 by 49 charter members from prominent Rhode Island families, purchased the deteriorating property in 1976 from a descendant of charter member Myra Appleby and restored it through community fundraising and volunteer labor. Today the house serves as the Society's headquarters and museum, preserving local artifacts and Smithfield history for public education. The grounds host a Summer Concert Series on Wednesday evenings, monthly Sunday Open Houses, and private wedding ceremonies, and are available by reservation for photographers seeking a historic New England backdrop for portraits.

    Built in 1822, the Aldrich House is a National Historic Landmark located on the beautiful and historic East Side of Providence. The house was presented to the Rhode Island Historical Society in 1974 by the heirs of Winthrop W. Aldrich, a former Ambassador to Great Britain, and it also serves as the Rhode Island Historical Society headquarters, hosting RIHS special events and programs by appointment. Robert S. Burroughs hired noted Rhode Island architect John Holden Greene to build the house in 1821; it was completed in 1822, the same year the Rhode Island Historical Society was founded. The Aldrich family later shaped national history from this address: Nelson W. Aldrich rose to the U.S. Senate in 1881 and helped lay the groundwork for the Federal Reserve, his daughter Abby married John D. Rockefeller Jr., and their son, Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, was named after him. During World War II, another daughter, Lucy Aldrich, sheltered Scottish evacuee children at the house.
