Casa Rio has stood on the San Antonio River Walk since 1946, when it became the first restaurant to open its doors along the river. The building itself is a Spanish Colonial hacienda on land first granted in 1777 by the King of Spain, with original thick rock walls, cedar lintels, and a working fireplace. Now in its fourth generation of family ownership under Los Leones, Casa Rio helped shape the River Walk's early character, from its colorful riverside umbrellas to its river barges. For private events, the venue offers several distinct spaces along the water. The Texas Room, the largest of the private rooms, is furnished in early Texas decor around a century-old solid oak bar and can combine with the adjoining Rio Room and Trophy Room for larger receptions. Cotton Creek Barn is a family-owned wedding and event venue in Tahoka, Texas, set in the middle of a working cotton field in the farming community of New Home. Owners Kent and Mitzi Bruton, a longtime area farmer and teacher, spent about two years building most of the venue themselves before it hosted its first wedding in July 2013. The property incorporates reclaimed materials gathered from the original New Home Cotton Gin, abandoned barns and farmhouses, and fences from around the community, along with vintage signage collected over the years. The venue's Main Barn, built from rusted tin and reclaimed fence wood, holds up to around 300 guests and serves as the setting for wedding ceremonies and receptions, along with birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, and other events. The Olde Grain Barn, the property's first addition, dates to 1951 and seats up to 150 guests for a ceremony; it doubles as a rain backup space and a spot for rehearsal dinners on its adjoining patio.
