    Darioush

4240 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558, USA

The story of Darioush began centuries ago, in the seat of winemaking culture. It culminates here and now - a new intersection of winecraft, extraordinary arts, time-honored customs grounded in an authentic tradition of graciousness. Darioush is a story of the harmonious blending of traditions - a culture of graciousness and thoughtfulness and one rooted in the ideals of individualism and opportunity. Nowhere is the connection between wine and culture more evident than in the history of Persia. Discoveries dating to 5,000 B.C. in the Zagros Mountains of Northern Iran show that winemaking emerged as permanent communities replaced nomadic life and a new age of wine culture began. The history of wine accompanies the very concept of hospitality, inspiring art, poetry, culture, and winecraft for millennia to come. Darioush Khaledi was instilled at an early age with the winemaking craft of his father, inspired by wine culture in the literary city of Shiraz - in modern day Iran - and the ancient city of Persepolis. He became a lifelong collector, seeking out old-world wines infused with tradition and energized by modern technique. Aspiring to the ideals of the American dream, Darioush immigrated to America to seek out opportunities others overlooked. He was an entrepreneur determined to realize his dream, yet always eager to share his journey through his love of wine borne of rich heritage. In 1997, he and his wife Shahpar founded Darioush and began to realize a lifelong aspiration to share the art, architecture, wine, craftsmanship, and culture that inspired their journey. In the late 1990's Darioush and winemaker Steve Devitt made an unorthodox choice, to commit to Southern Napa Valley - choosing its cooler microclimates to develop their unique style. While the focus was in the north, he was headed south. Seeking opportunities others overlooked, Darioush and Steve focused intently on site selection and cooler microclimates in Southern Napa Valley; high atop Mount Veeder and the maritime-influenced Valley floor. Replanting where necessary to unlock the full potential of both the vineyard and wine grape cultivated from it. They committed to a Bordeaux-style of winemaking - a blended style they long admired for the potential to truly express a wine's character. Now these years later, the Darioush estate comprises 120 acres in Southern Napa Valley spanning the Mount Veeder and Oak Knoll AVA's. They believe truly unique wines reflect great vineyards, but also the character of the people behind them. This spirit finds its home in a vineyard estate, an environment of warmth and hospitality.

    Stag's Leap Wine Cellars

5766 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558, USA

Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, notably known for being the winery that won the Cabernet Sauvignon competition in the famous 1976 Judgment of Paris, was founded in 1970, and is considered a Napa Valley first-growth estate. In 1969, The founder of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars first tasted with Nathan Fay, whose scenic vineyard below the rocky promontory of the Stags Leap Palisades, so named because of the legend of the stag who successfully eluded hunters by leaping to freedom across the district's landmark peaks, was the first planting of Cabernet Sauvignon in what later became the Stags Leap District. In 1970, The founder purchased the 44 acre property, which was primarily a prune orchard, next to Nathan Fay's vineyard, named the property Stag's Leap Vineyards, and replanted it to Cabernet Sauvignon and a little bit of Merlot. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was born. In 1972, The first vintage of S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon is produced. In 1973, The first winery building is completed, and the now historic 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon becomes the first wine made in the new red wine facility. In 1974, The first vintage of CASK 23 is produced after consulting winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff, while tasting through the lots of wine from this vintage, decided that one lot, which was in the large wooden cask numbered 23, was so beautiful and deliciously distinct that it should be bottled separately. In 1976, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars won the Cabernet Sauvignon category in a blind tasting staged by Steven Spurrier, an English wine merchant in Paris, among French wine experts between American and French wines. This later became known as the famous Judgment of Paris. In 1986, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars purchased FAY vineyard from Nathan Fay. In 1989, The Stags Leap District in Napa Valley was established as an American Viticultural Area. In 1990, The first bottling of FAY Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon was produced from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars. In 1996, A bottle of the history-making 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon was placed in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s national Museum of American History. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars begins the excavation of its wine caves. In 2000, The Napa wine caves were completed with an entrance called The Arcade, designed by Barcelona-based architect Javier Barba. There are over 34,000 square feet of tunnels, and one of only about 50 Foucault pendulums in the world, which suspended from the ceiling, marks the passing of time and the aging of wine. In 2001, The first vintage of ARTEMIS Cabernet Sauvignon, named for the Greek Goddess of the Hunt, was produced. In 2007, A partnership between Ste. Michelle Wine Estates and Marchesi Antinori proudly accepted the stewardship of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and its legacy. In 2013, The iconic 1973 S.L.V. Cabernet Sauvignon was named one of the Smithsonian's "Objects that Made America". In 2014, Designed by Barcelona-based architect Javier Barba, the must-see FAY Outlook & Visitors Center opens, allowing visiting guests to take in beautiful panoramic views of FAY Vineyard while experiencing the top-notch Stag's Leap Wine Cellars hospitality.

    Pine Ridge Vineyards

5901 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558, USA

Founded in 1978 by Gary Andrus, Pine Ridge Vineyards sits in the heart of the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, famous for Cabernet Sauvignon wines of distinctive power and elegance. Today, the winery owns estate vineyards in five premier Napa Valley appellations: Stags Leap District, Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford, and Carneros. Everyone on their team, from vineyard to cellar, is united in the desire to create wines that honor their remarkable origins with unique expression. At Pine Ridge Vineyards, they are committed to and have always embraced sustainable practices. They take every step we can to preserve the ecosystem of the region, and their Napa Green certification demonstrates their commitment as responsible stewards of the land. The multidisciplinary in-house Green Team meets regularly to monitor and improve their practices and to implement the latest sustainable practices, ensuring long-term viability of the business and quality of life in the community. This philosophy allows them to deliver wines that express their natural origin and will be complex and elegant for years to come. Since their founding in 1978, Pine Ridge Vineyards has invested in 160 acres of estate vineyards, 47 of which are in our home appellation, Stags Leap District. They also own vineyards throughout the most renowned growing regions of Napa Valley: Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford, and Carneros. This great diversity of terroir inspires their winemaking team to craft wines that reflect the outstanding characteristics of their distinct origins. Since 2003, Gustavo Aviña, the Director of Viticulture, has worked intimately with every Pine Ridge Vineyards estate property. He and his team understand the soils and climates of the winery’s vineyards. If he had to choose a favorite, Gustavo might pick Howell Mountain. He likes the way this steeply sloping vineyard is challenging to farm; it’s also the first vineyard he developed from the ground up for Pine Ridge Vineyards. Their winemaking philosophy is guided by the thoughtful selection of vineyard blocks designated for each wine. Their goal is to honor the unique winemaking needs of each of our estate vineyards in five different appellations, as well as the ever-changing demands of each new vintage. Meticulous attention to detail in the cellar allows them to craft appellation wines that express their distinct terroir with power, elegance, and texture. The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon blend is produced from as many as 80 different small lots—wines that showcase the complex expression of this storied winegrowing region. Our winemaking team also leads extensive barrel trials to determine the aging approaches that best enhance the personality of each wine; these programs are well-known locally for bringing winemakers together in the rustic ambiance of their caves.

    Opus One

7900 St Helena Hwy, Napa, CA 94558, USA

Opus One is the realized dream of two men: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. Together, the founders set out to create a single wine dedicated to the pursuit of uncompromising quality. This mission shapes every vintage, today and for generations to come. Rising gently from the earth around it, the Opus One winery does not rush to reveal itself. The building sits in harmony with its natural surroundings, offering a soft transition from the vineyard to its lush, green grass exterior. Just as it honors the land, it honors the light. Great winemaking begins in the vineyard. When the founders created Opus One, they dreamed of a great wine that would transcend generations. Nearly four decades later, they continue to refine the complex subtleties of Opus One by honoring traditional methods and the continual pursuit of innovation and improvement. The estate vineyards of Opus One, comprised of four parcels, sit in the western portion of the famed Oakville AVA. Two parcels, totaling 100 acres, are within the renowned To Kalon Vineyard. These are complemented by the combined 70 acres of the Ballestra and River parcels, which envelop the winery. In the vineyards, hand-harvesting and other traditional approaches are taken wherever they work best. When modern techniques benefit the wine-growing process, they are researched, evaluated, and integrated into practice. Guided by the vision of the founders, the winemaker, Michael Silacci, combines intuition and technical acumen with the dual perspective of viticulturist and winemaker. From tasting berries to careful sorting and extended aging in new French oak barrels, each stage of the winemaking process is afforded the same meticulous consideration and attention. After 18 months, the wine is bottled and held for an additional 15 months until release on October 1st each year. As farmers and artisans, deeply concerned with the collective future, Opus One recognizes that sustainability practices benefit the winery, its neighbors, and its customers. The culture and internal practices at Opus One reflect their commitment to conservation and responsible consumption in the areas of energy, water, waste management, transportation, purchasing, and food. They have been certified as a green winery as part of the Napa Valley Vintners- Napa Green Initiative and is implementing more than 100 favorable and environmentally friendly procedures.

1991 St Helena Hwy, Rutherford, CA 94573, USA

Gustave Niebaum was born on August 30 in Helsingfors (present-day Helsinki), Finland, into a Swedish-speaking family. Niebaum received his master papers from the Nautical Institute in Helsingfors, and was given his first command in 1864 to captain a ship headed through the Bering Strait to Russian America, later purchased by the United States as the Department of Alaska in 1868. He explores the land and water routes of this frontier region and begins a career in commerce. As ship's captain, Gustave Niebaum sails into San Francisco Bay, after traveling throughout Alaska and its surrounding islands, with a cargo of fur hides and sealskins worth $600,000, a fortune at the time. He settles in San Francisco and, along with several partners, founds the Alaska Commercial Company, which establishes trading posts and shipping lines in Alaskan territory. Within a decade of leaving Finland, Niebaum is a multi-millionaire with a refined taste for life and a dream of building an American winery to rival the great chateaus of Europe. Niebaum buys the Inglenook property as well as the adjoining Rohlwing Farm for $48,000. After extensive travel and study, Niebaum chooses Inglenook's site, intuiting its extraordinary potential for growing grapes. He continues to acquire smaller parcels of neighboring land over the next several years so that by 1887 he ownsed 1,100 contiguous acres, spending a total sum of about $60,000. Fluent in several languages, Niebaum assiduously collected books on every aspect of winemaking, assembling a private library considered to be one of the most valuable on viticulture and oenology. John Daniel Jr.—Niebaum's grandnephew, who assumes management of Inglenook in 1939—eventually donates this library to the University of California at Davis. Inglenook's Chateau winery was conceived to be a state-of-the-art facility. The Chateau's design is based on gravity-flow, one of the first of its type in Napa Valley, and includes an early form of rebar—using cable from cable-cars in San Francisco—to stave off earthquake tremors and to help the building shift safely. True to his fastidious nature in each step of the winemaking process, Niebaum devises California's first grape-sorting table and also installs the state's first bottling line to ensure the wines' provenance from growth to bottle, the latter always bearing the California Pure Wine Stamp and secured with an intricate wire maze to guarantee the wine's integrity. After almost 200 years, Inglenook is still a prominent, luxurious winery in Napa Valley.

    Robert Sinskey Vineyards

6320 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558, USA

RSV is a second-generation, family-owned and operated vineyard and winery guided by the principle that the craft of winegrowing begins with the care of the soil. Every vine for every wine was planted by RSV with every vineyard certified* organic. One could say that RSV is beyond organic. Since 1991, RSV has been practicing the “whole farm” philosophy of interrelationships based on Rudolph Steiner’s 1928 lecture “Agriculture.” This approach addresses the damage done by modern, mechanized farming to heal an ailing earth, tapping into the rhythms of nature, encouraging natural processes to grow balanced wine grapes that require little more than attentiveness to craft into expressive, vibrant and living wines. RSV approaches the cellar with purist sensibilities. Winemaker Jeff Virnig provides the knowledge of nearly 35 years in the RSV cellar and vineyards, crafting wines that are true to variety and place. RSV to maintains a house style of elegance, balance and finesse. RSV does not submit wine for review by score-centric critics, because to taste wine in a competitive atmosphere, without food on the table, rewards muscular wines that shout while ignoring well-crafted wines of subtlety and grace that compliment the table… attributes that define the fine wines of RSV. Fine wine needs to evolve from a distinct point of view – a self-imposed discipline to navigate the siren song of temptation. Otherwise, you may wake up one day to find yourself fabricating a wine to placate a critic or fill a market segment, and discover your craft has devolved into just another recipe for soulless wine. Find out why RSV was named Sunset magazine’s tasting room of the year and the Wine Spectator featured it as a must visit winery in Napa Valley. But don’t take their word for it, come see it for yourself. Great wine is about good food and good people. You will find all that and more at RSV. RSV is dedicated to the agrarian, culinary experience. Sheep graze the vineyards and provide wool, pelts and meat. Edible landscape, extensive culinary gardens and fruit orchards cover the winery grounds and vineyards. Beehives dot the backside of RSV’s Capa Vineyard where they pollinate the orchards and provide honey. RSV has even planted an experimental truffle orchard with English Oaks and Filberts… because elegant, balanced wines should be served with produce and meats from the gardens and/or artisan purveyors and prepared in RSV’s Vineyard Kitchen.

St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery

8440 St Helena Hwy, St Helena, CA 94574, USA

As an Estate Winery, St. Supéry has the highest level of control over both the grape growing and winemaking processes, allowing them to manage their wine from berry to bottle. The estate vineyards, Rutherford Estate and Dollarhide Estate, provide every drop that goes into St. Supéry wines. To be labeled “estate,” a wine must be produced entirely from grapes owned by the winery and made and bottled on the winery property. This high level of control, from grape to glass, ensures the world-class wine quality for which they are known for. St. Supéry’s Rutherford Estate Vineyard surrounds the winery in the celebrated Rutherford wine growing region along Highway 29. Thirty-five acres are planted with red Bordeaux varieties: cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc. With three soil types and an elevation of 154 feet, Rutherford Estate Vineyard enjoys a Mediterranean climate of warm days, cool nights and a long, dry growing season. These conditions are ideal for the red Bordeaux varieties, which are used for the estate's red blend, Élu, as well as St. Supéry’s Rutherford Estate Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc — three of their exceptional single vineyard bottlings. Located in the northeastern hills of Napa Valley, the Dollarhide Estate Ranch is a valley within a valley and has 1,530-plus acres, 500 planted to the vineyard. The oldest vines at Dollarhide Estate, now more than 30 years old, produce the full-bodied, robust cabernet sauvignon and distinctive sauvignon blanc wines upon which St. Supéry’s reputation was built. Vineyard elevations ranging from 600 to 1,100 feet above sea level, seven different soil series, 13 soil variations and unique microclimates, combine at Dollarhide to create an especially accommodating growing environment for Bordeaux grape varieties. During CEO, Emma Swain’s and Vice President of Winemaking and Vineyards, Michael Scholz’s tenure with St. Supéry, the winery has undergone a transformation in quality with extensive investments in the vineyard, winery and technology. The quality of the wines has never been better, which is reflected through highly acclaimed accolades including Robert Parker, Jr.’s comments praising the winery for “dramatically raising the quality level of their offerings.” St. Supéry Estate’s wines are 100% estate from grape to bottle. They have complete control over how our grapes are grown and how our wine is made from crush through bottling. We strive to keep our land pristine and our wines at the highest quality and are proud to have both our land and winery certified Napa Green. Environmental stewardship is incredibly important at St. Supéry, and they strive each day to “walk the walk” in the vineyards, in the cellar and even in the business offices.

From small-bite wine and food pairing sessions with their resident chefs to seated wine dinners and in-depth cellar tours, visit Cakebread Cellars for a unique Napa winery experience. Private events are available for groups of 10 to 50 guests. Quality and sustainability have been Cakebread cornerstones since their first vintage in 1973. They are a family winery, and we want to protect the land for future generations. At Cakebread Cellars, they embrace environmental responsibility with green practices that range from sustainable and organic farming and diligent water/energy conservation to extensive recycling operations (nearly 90% of winery-generated waste). They are proud to have been an early industry leader in these efforts. In fact, they were only the second California winery to achieve Napa Green certification; they are also certified as Fish Friendly and participate in the Certified California Sustainable Winegrowing program. Sustainable vineyard practices include: monitoring for soil moisture and vine stress to determine irrigation needs; automatic irrigation and mulching to reduce evaporation during irrigation; soil and nutrient management to maintain vineyard health, including composting, reducing herbicide use, avoiding synthetic fertilizers, properly managing pH, and applying microbials to improve vine balance. Our integrated pest management program encourages falcons for bird control and canopy management for disease control; as well as block by block monitoring to catch any issues before they have the chance to progress. We’re also committed to farming with as little impact as possible on the ecosystem. This includes documenting wildlife populations, limiting tree removal, establishing wildlife corridors, reducing run-off, protecting stream channels and planting native grasses. Elevate your next event with their culinary program. Since 1973, it has been inspired by the seasonal bounty of their estate fruit and vegetable garden. Their resident chefs continue that tradition by pairing farm-to-table fare with their acclaimed wines for vintner dinners, private events and cooking classes at their Napa winery. Each recipe in their extensive collection is inspired by fresh ingredients from the Cakebread Culinary Garden at their Napa Valley winery, and created by their resident winery chefs Brian Streeter and Thomas Sixsmith to complement their wines.

    Round Pond Estate

875 Rutherford Rd, Rutherford, CA 94573, USA

Located in the heart of the Napa Valley, for more than a century the Rutherford region has been recognized for producing red wines of incomparable opulence and elegance. Although measuring a mere six square miles, this coveted winegrowing area is home to some of the oldest and most storied wineries in the United States. Within this community, Round Pond Estate is neighbored by such acclaimed wineries as Beaulieu Vineyards, Caymus, Cakebread, Honig and Frog’s Leap. Offering a unique mix of microclimate and soil composition, Rutherford has proven ideal for the cultivation of Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as premium Italian and Spanish olives. Offering abundant sunshine, warm daytime temperatures and only moderate cooling influences, Rutherford yields fruit with ripe, robust character. Adding to this character is Rutherford’s unique alluvial soils deposited over millennia by the Napa and Russian rivers as well as the Conn Creek. These vibrant and diverse soils add to the region’s rich palette of flavors. Situated at the main Rutherford crossroads, between Beaulieu Vineyards and Caymus Winery, Round Pond has been growing premium wine grapes since the early 1980s. Cultivated with meticulous care, their grapes have been sold to several of the most preeminent wineries in the region. Recognizing the estate’s ecological diversity, they also undertook the planting of several varieties of imported Italian and Spanish olive trees for the production of premium oils. Because they are passionate about offering the finest gourmet items from the gifts nature has given them, they constructed a state-of-the art-mill to ensure absolute quality in the production of the artisan oils. In addition, using a small selection of extraordinary grapes from their vineyard’s 362 planted acres, Round Pond has established an acclaimed estate wine program focusing on world-class Cabernet Sauvignon produced in extremely limited quantities. Made in conjunction with our super-premium estate wines, they also produce prized red wine vinegars using the revered Orleans Method. For nearly a quarter-century they have had the pleasure and the privilege of being stewards of Round Pond Estate. While chemicals and shortcuts can make for quick fixes, the truth is, consistent, quality wine growing is about seasons, cycles and a long-term commitment to the land. To promote natural balance and vineyard health they have dedicated themselves to the principles of sustainable wine growing.

    Palmaz Vineyards

4029 Hagen Rd, Napa, CA 94558, USA

In 1852, young Henry Hagen arrives on a West Coast in the throes of continental expansion and the Gold Rush. He initially settles in San Francisco but in 1881 turns his attention slightly north, purchasing a parcel of land in the southern end of nearby Napa Valley, against the forested ridges of Mount George. There he founds Cedar Knoll Vineyard and Winery, where the Palmaz Vineyards and family reside today, just off what’s now known as Hagen Road. Hagen will become one of the true pioneers of the Napa Valley: His noteworthy wines are featured at the San Francisco Opera House and served to some of the finest people of the city, according to contemporary newspaper accounts. Hagen even wins a silver medal for his brandy at L’Exposition Universelle de Paris 1889 World’s Fair. Hagen dies in 1895, leaving behind 450 acres of “fine vineland.” While Cedar Knoll is lauded for its wines (and spirits), Hagen’s descendants don’t share his passion. With the arrival of Prohibition in 1919, the property’s winemaking endeavors are abandoned until the Palmaz family purchases the property in the late 1990s and sets about restoring its former glory. Julio and Amalia Palmaz have always believed that if given the proper attention and care, their land can produce excellent wine for generations. Along with their children, Florencia and Christian Gastón (and Christian’s wife, Jessica Louise), they set about creating a winery that leverages tradition and technology in the service of crafting great vintages. The result is a 600-acre estate with 64 acres of vineyards that produce truly modern vintages, thanks to the technology harnessed in support of the art of winemaking. At Palmaz, they believe in farming the individual vine, not the vineyard. Tradition and technology seamlessly come together to give them insights into the needs of each vine. While nothing replaces the knowledge gained from walking through the vineyard, personally touching each vine, technologies such as advanced Geographic Informational Systems give the winemaking team an understanding of what vines need both above- and below-ground. By combining farming techniques from the organic, biodynamic and erosion-control philosophies, the Palmaz family has created a truly sustainable farm that will produce great wine for generations to come. From diverse cover crops in the winter to a deficit-irrigation program in the summer, tending to the land is a year-round program. The vineyards are nestled at three different elevations, from the hills around the estate to the crest of Mount George, and feature 46 distinct vineyard blocks. The complexity of the terrain results in a variety of micro-climates, all of which influence grapes in unique ways. Each parcel features a distinct rootstock and clonal combination that contributes a special characteristic to the resulting wines.
