Your wonderful visit to New Orleans’ historic and beautiful French Quarter would not be complete without a stop at Jackson Square, which is where you will find the Cabildo. This elegant Spanish colonial building neighbors St. Louis Cathedral and houses many rare artifacts of America’s history. In commemoration of the city’s 300th anniversary, the Louisiana State Museum debuted a new exhibition, We Love You, New Orleans!, celebrating people, places, and things that are quintessentially New Orleans including Sidney Bechet’s saxophone, a Mardi Gras Indian suit, memorabilia from Pontchartrain Beach, and a K&B sign, among other things. Using a variety of artifacts, images and documents, the exhibition From "Dirty Shirts" to Buccaneers: The Battle of New Orleans in American Culture opens with an exploration of the battle’s history, emphasizing the diversity of its participants, and closes with an investigation of how the battle has been remembered, commemorated and represented. Come visit the Cabildo, the site of the Louisiana Purchase transfer ceremonies in 1803 and one of Louisiana’s most significant historical buildings. From landmark court cases to visits from international ambassadors, many important events in Louisiana have taken place within the Cabildo. The three floors of Cabildo exhibitions cover the history of Louisiana by featuring artifacts such as documents, paintings and 3D objects from the museum’s vast collection.

We owe a debt of gratitude to Chef Paul and Kay for their dedication to their craft and the opportunity to learn from the very best. We consider it a privilege and a blessing to be able to serve our clients, many of whom have become like members of our own family via the telling of tales, the sharing of jalapeño cheddar yeast rolls, and the raising of martini glasses. We will also cherish the memories of all of the incredible employees who have worked for us over the years, knowing that they will each take a little bit of K-with Paul's them for the rest of their professional lives. - 1 Museum
- 1 Landmark
The Presbytère’s two permanent exhibits tell two sides of the ongoing Louisiana story—one of celebration and one of resilience. Mardi Gras: It’s Carnival Time in Louisiana offers a window into the annual celebration and riotous rituals of Mardi Gras, a festival that is inextricably woven into Louisiana’s way of life and whose roots extend deep into the Middle Ages. There are parade floats to climb, costumes to see and historical throws on display as well as rare glimpses into the secretive social club society from which modern-day Mardi Gras krewes evolved. And it’s not a party without music: Mardi Gras albums, records, sheet music and more are also part of the collection. The Living with Hurricanes: Katrina and Beyond exhibit tells of rescue, rebuilding and renewal. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans’ badly engineered levee system, it resulted in one of the worst disasters in American history, leaving 80 percent of the city flooded and hundreds dead. The exhibit documents the event, the aftermath and southeast Louisiana’s ongoing recovery. With interactive exhibits and artifacts that showcase the spirit of the city’s residents, this is a collection you don’t want to miss.

Micaela Almonester, the Baroness de Pontalba, was born in New Orleans in 1795 to aristocratic families of French-Creole and Spanish descent. She inherited her father's fortune when she was a little child, as he was the only living heir. Her father, Andrés Almonester y Rojas, had been a prominent donor to the city of New Orleans through his humanitarian efforts. She was arranged to marry Joseph-Xavier Célestin Delfau de Pontalba, and the couple finally settled in Paris, where she lived for the majority of her life after their marriage. Her husband and father-in-law re-established power over her and her estate by coercive means. Her father-in-law, driven by an insatiable desire for Micaela's money, attempted to murder her several years after the initial attempt. While she survived with injuries to her hand and breast, she also attempted to legally separate herself from her husband, despite the fact that they were never actually divorced. Her father's legacy as a key contribution to New Orleans as a businesswoman, developer, and well-known personality was carried on by the Baroness. Her father's legacy as a key contribution to New Orleans as a businesswoman, developer, and well-known personality was carried on by the Baroness. She made significant contributions to the revitalization of the French quarter, most notably through the creation of the historic Pontalba Buildings. She was in charge of the architectural design of the structures, as well as the construction of them, which she oversaw closely. Construction of this ancient brick building began in 1835 and served as the Baroness' warehouse, where she kept her furniture and other belongings safe and secure.

The New Orleans Board Of Trade was founded in 1880, and trading continued on the floor until mid-1960. Centered on the eastern wall of the building are three clocks, which have been in place since the building was erected, giving the times in New Orleans, New York & Rio de Janeiro, which were the major players in the Green Coffee Trading. The eight-sectioned mural done was hand-painted by local artist Alvin Sharpe in 1932. It took him approximately three months to complete. First, the canvas was glued to the dome, and then he painted them while on a scaffold in the prone position -- the local version of Michelangelo. (The cost for this project was only $5,500.00 -- just imagine what it would cost today!) In 1993, the Board of Trade was once again renovated, the floors leveled and carpeted with a movable dance floor. It is now available for special event rental, so the public has the opportunity to experience the grandeur of days gone by. The space can currently accomodate up to 500 guests reception style and 250 seated.
