Heritage Park is a six-acre historic venue in Santa Fe Springs, California, set on the restored grounds of the Hawkins Ranch, which prospered in the 1880s. The city of Santa Fe Springs reconstructed the park's Victorian-era landscape using historic photographs, resulting in a setting that includes beautifully landscaped gardens with lattice arches and cherub statuary, water fountains, a carriage barn built in the Gothic style, and a plant-filled conservatory that serves as a popular backdrop for wedding ceremonies. The park accommodates a variety of events — from wedding ceremonies and receptions to photo sessions, corporate picnics, and private parties. The Plant Conservatory, originally built around 1870, provides an intimate ceremony setting, while the historic Carriage Barn and surrounding park grounds suit larger gatherings. A restored AT&SF steam locomotive and railroad caboose add a distinctive character to the site. The caboose itself is available as a rentable event space for smaller celebrations. Reservations are managed by Heritage Park staff Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and can be reached at (562) 946-6476 or heritagepark@santafesprings.gov.

The City of Porterville has stewarded the property since 1970, when the family's youngest daughter, Pearle, bequeathed it to the city. Events take place in the surrounding 1930s-style rose garden, a lush outdoor setting of manicured lawns, brick pathways, flowering trees, and seasonal blooms. The garden is well suited to outdoor weddings, receptions, and private celebrations. Each rental includes access to the garden area, a bridal room, a kitchen, and tables and chairs. An on-site officiant is available upon request. Champagne toasts are permitted; general alcohol service is not allowed on the property. Palmaz Vineyards

4029 Hagen Rd, Napa, CA 94558, USA

In 1852, young Henry Hagen arrives on a West Coast in the throes of continental expansion and the Gold Rush. He initially settles in San Francisco but in 1881 turns his attention slightly north, purchasing a parcel of land in the southern end of nearby Napa Valley, against the forested ridges of Mount George. There he founds Cedar Knoll Vineyard and Winery, where the Palmaz Vineyards and family reside today, just off what’s now known as Hagen Road. Hagen will become one of the true pioneers of the Napa Valley: His noteworthy wines are featured at the San Francisco Opera House and served to some of the finest people of the city, according to contemporary newspaper accounts. Hagen even wins a silver medal for his brandy at L’Exposition Universelle de Paris 1889 World’s Fair. Hagen dies in 1895, leaving behind 450 acres of “fine vineland.” While Cedar Knoll is lauded for its wines (and spirits), Hagen’s descendants don’t share his passion. With the arrival of Prohibition in 1919, the property’s winemaking endeavors are abandoned until the Palmaz family purchases the property in the late 1990s and sets about restoring its former glory. Julio and Amalia Palmaz have always believed that if given the proper attention and care, their land can produce excellent wine for generations. Along with their children, Florencia and Christian Gastón (and Christian’s wife, Jessica Louise), they set about creating a winery that leverages tradition and technology in the service of crafting great vintages. The result is a 600-acre estate with 64 acres of vineyards that produce truly modern vintages, thanks to the technology harnessed in support of the art of winemaking. At Palmaz, they believe in farming the individual vine, not the vineyard. Tradition and technology seamlessly come together to give them insights into the needs of each vine. While nothing replaces the knowledge gained from walking through the vineyard, personally touching each vine, technologies such as advanced Geographic Informational Systems give the winemaking team an understanding of what vines need both above- and below-ground. By combining farming techniques from the organic, biodynamic and erosion-control philosophies, the Palmaz family has created a truly sustainable farm that will produce great wine for generations to come. From diverse cover crops in the winter to a deficit-irrigation program in the summer, tending to the land is a year-round program. The vineyards are nestled at three different elevations, from the hills around the estate to the crest of Mount George, and feature 46 distinct vineyard blocks. The complexity of the terrain results in a variety of micro-climates, all of which influence grapes in unique ways. Each parcel features a distinct rootstock and clonal combination that contributes a special characteristic to the resulting wines.

  • Featured photo from Black Stallion Estate Winery

    Black Stallion Estate Winery

4089 Silverado Trail, Napa, CA 94558, USA

Twelve years after arriving in America, in 1924, Gaspare Indelicato planted a vineyard in Manteca, California. With it, he planted the foundation of his eventual success in the California wine trade. Since that first vineyard flourished, Gaspare’s children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have honored his legacy through dedication to his steadfast values of family, hard work and integrity. More than a century ago, Gaspare and Caterina Indelicato immigrated from Sicily to the United States. With little to draw on but a long family history of grapegrowing and an entreprenuer’s gift for seizing opportunity, Gaspare entered the wine trade by planting a single vineyard in Manteca, California, where the climate reminded the couple of their homeland. Occupying a privileged position at the southern foot of the trail, the winery grounds eventually became the site of the Silverado Western Center, a major equestrian center that opened in September 1963. The original riding area now houses prized wines, instead of prize-winning horses. However Black Stallion Estate Winery carries its heritage forward. The estate’s legacy honors the world-class terroir of Napa Valley, the pioneering spirit of the Silverado Trail, and the Indelicato family’s warm hospitality and generations of wine expertise. To make great wine, a winemaker must have a deep familiarity with each lot of freshly pressed juice. At Black Stallion, the search for greatness means boots in the vineyard, checking on vine growth and grape development all year long. It means tasting grapes rather than looking at lab reports to determine the perfect moment to pick. It means harvesting and sorting fruit by hand. Black Stallion Winery’s small scale means that each lot of grapes that arrives at harvest is treated individually, and receives a unique upbringing to bring out its full potential for excellence. Once crushed at the winery, micro-lots are either fermented in small tanks made of wood, concrete or steel. These choices of aging vessel give winemaker Ralf Holdenried exceptional flexibility to match a batch of grapes with the material best suited to bring out its greatness—key in a region as diverse as Napa Valley. After fermentation, the wine is drained using gravity, not pumps, and aged in the finest oak barrels. The gentle handling of the wine prevents the extraction of harsh components that could impart bitterness. There’s no set recipe for a Black Stallion blend, just the finely honed palates of winemaker Ralf Holdenried and his team. It’s not uncommon for Holdenried to try dozens of trial blends before deciding on a final cuvée. The goal is always the same: To create a seamless, harmonious wine that captures the varietal’s best expression of that vintage in Napa Valley.

Lillaskog Lodge sits on a forested mountaintop 11 miles from Yosemite National Park's Big Oak Flat entrance, surrounded by the Stanislaus National Forest in the Sierra Nevada foothills near Groveland, California. The lodge was built by hand over six years by founder Bill Charlson — a retired park ranger who purchased fire-damaged acreage, planted approximately 20,000 trees, and milled timber from the land to construct the building. Current owners Liza and Tom have stewarded the property since late 2021, continuing the tradition of hosting more than 25 weddings each year. The venue accommodates celebrations of up to 150 guests across two outdoor event areas: the Lower Lawn, anchored by a gazebo set against sweeping mountain views and frequently used for ceremonies and photography, and the Upper Lawn, a cobblestone-lined space well-suited for dining and receptions under the open sky. The lodge's indoor Dining Room and Great Room — featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and a stone fireplace — provide additional gathering space for smaller groups. Wedding packages include two-night lodge rental, tables, chairs, linens, staff setup and breakdown, and on-call weekend coordination. Built in 1934 as a U.S. Coast Guard cutter and converted into FDR's floating White House in 1936, the ship served the 32nd president through the Great Depression and World War II before becoming a National Historic Landmark. The vessel offers private charters for groups of up to 120 guests for standing cocktail-style receptions, with reduced capacity for seated dining. Charter options include two- to three-hour cruises on San Francisco Bay — with departure and return from Oakland, or remote docking in San Francisco or Sausalito — as well as stationary dockside charters at the Oakland berth.
