Our Tasting Room Our tasting room is located in the historic Rockwood Farmhouse (built in 1885), in the heart of the San Pasqual Valley wine region, just minutes from the San Diego Safari Park. Also pet- and child-friendly, our tasting room provides shade in the garden as well as indoor air conditioning during the hot summer months. A customs agent named Jose Maria Orozco boarded his horse-drawn wagon on September 20, 1845, and headed north from Old Town San Diego to what is now Valley Center to claim a piece of land covering three square leagues, or approximately 13,298 acres, in the area that is now Valley Center. The land was a gift from the Mexican Governor of California, Pio Pico, who had previously given similar large parcels of land to friends and patrons of the governorate. It was one of more than 800 so-called Mexican Land Grant ranches that were awarded during a romantic period of history known as the "Days of the Dons," during which the Dons ruled the land.
