  The American Windmill Museum sits on a 28-acre tract of rolling hills within Lubbock's Mackenzie Park, home to the largest public collection of restored windmills in the world. Two galleries — a 30,000-square-foot building opened in 1997 and a 33,000-square-foot addition opened in 2016 — house the collection alongside a 660KW Vestas wind turbine with a 154-foot rotor and a 6,600-square-foot model train layout.   Set on a private road in the Texas Hill Country north of San Antonio, Lost Mission is a wedding and special-event venue built around an authentic mission-style chapel and reception hall, surrounded by oak trees off Highway 46 near Spring Branch. The property was built beginning in 2009 by contractor Lon Danley, who drew on his New Mexico upbringing to construct the buildings from more than 6,500 stacked straw bales finished in white stucco, in the style of Old World Spanish architecture. Handcrafted details from Lost Mission's on-site workshop appear throughout the property, including hand-carved white oak and cypress doors, wrought-iron sconces and chandeliers, 1890s pews shipped in from a Pennsylvania church, and a mission bell reclaimed from a Kerrville farm. The climate-controlled Mission Style Chapel seats up to 240 guests beneath stained-glass windows, while the Modern Reception Hall accommodates up to 350 guests and features a 40-foot firewall, wood trusses, a rock fireplace, and a built-in bar. A 7,000-square-foot patio with cafe lighting and a stream-side path connects the two spaces.   McPherson Cellars occupies a restored Coca-Cola bottling plant in downtown Lubbock's historic Depot District, where a tasting room, lofty industrial interior, and outdoor courtyard combine to host weddings, corporate functions, rehearsal dinners, and private celebrations. The winery traces its roots to Dr. Clinton "Doc" McPherson, who began experimenting with vine plantings on the Texas High Plains in the 1960s and helped found the Texas High Plains AVA. His son, winemaker Kim McPherson, studied enology and viticulture at UC Davis and worked in Napa Valley before returning home to continue his father's work. The winery sources its grapes exclusively from High Plains growers, including Lahey Vineyards, Timmons Estate, and Lost Draw Vineyards, farmed at elevations between 2,800 and 4,000 feet. For events, the Event Center, Tasting Room, Private Tasting Room, and outdoor courtyard can be booked together or separately, accommodating gatherings from intimate cocktail receptions to weddings of up to 200 guests.
