The McConathy family purchased 500 acres of the Turner Ranch in 2014, forming Oak Plantation Trophy Ranch. Long before anything else was erected, he and his bride were married beneath one of the gorgeous oak trees. It was built in 1876 by German immigrants during a time when horse drawn carriages, railroad tracks, and old saloons were still in use. Today, the house is one hundred and forty years old. The original homesteaders were the well-known Wunsche Brothers of Old Town Spring, who still live on the property. Originally known as "Oak Tree Manor," the historic structure sits on its original site on Spring Stuebner Road and is surrounded by century-old oak trees, some of which are more than two hundred years old. One Live Oak has qualified to be included in the Harris Country Tree Registry, and one Willow Oak has been recognized as a county-wide champion in its category by the Harris County Tree Commission. A living room and a master bedroom have been the only major additions to the main house in recent years, with the remaining rooms being renovated. The original wood has been preserved to the greatest extent possible. The grounds have recently been enhanced with the addition of a Gazebo, a swimming pool, and a reception hall. Numerous weddings have taken place under the shade of the two-hundred-year-old oak tree over the course of several generations. According to local legend, couples who tie the knot under this tree will be blessed with happiness, children, and, of course, a long-lasting relationship. Mimosa Gardens is a versatile indoor-outdoor event venue in Dayton, Texas, offering a thoughtfully designed setting for weddings, celebrations, corporate events, and private gatherings. Larry and Karen began to dream about magnificent vineyards and possibly even creating wine while traveling around Italy, France, Australia, New Zealand, and other exotic locations. When Wild Stallion Vineyards was founded in 2009, that goal became a reality! In 2008, Wild Stallion Vineyards planted a small test site of Blanc du Bois grapes, a variety of the widespread Vitis vinifera that is best suited to the Gulf Coast environment. Blanc des Bois grapes create a dry, fruity wine that has received numerous national and international prizes. We currently have nearly three acres of trees planted, and they are doing fantastically! We planted two more acres directly adjacent to the Event Center in the spring of 2015 to provide our guests a closer look at the vines. A vineyard is the most tranquil and lovely location for a wedding. Who wouldn't want to exchange vows in front of a vineyard? Wild Stallion Vineyards is Harris County's lone vineyard, so you won't find anything like it anywhere else. The Wild Stallion Event Center is the ideal location for your next birthday celebration, family gathering, business meeting, wedding, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, or any other event that would benefit from a gorgeous vineyard backdrop. To most, Sandlewood Manor is just a breathtakingly beautiful wedding and events venue on a picturesque private estate property. Yet, to owners Shawn and Lauren Sparks, the manor can best be described as an adventure in faith, perseverance and answered prayer. The journey began with a shared desire to work together as a husband and wife team. The couple began praying together for God’s direction and were inspired to create a ministry based wedding venue. Amazed that they were both separately given the same vision, they stepped out in faith and began researching the industry, as well as working with an architect to begin making the vision a reality. During the next two years, God placed incredibly talented and experienced industry professionals in their path who came on board and directed and mentored each step of the way. However, the search for land became very discouraging. More than once, having finally found an acceptable piece of property, an offer was made but quickly lost, as developers offered more money and an immediate closing. Lauren and Shawn continued to pray. “We just couldn’t find the land that we had envisioned for Sandlewood Manor. Then God led us to Tomball, Texas. We came upon the property at 22402 Holly Creek Trail and were amazed at what we saw. It was something we could have never imagined and far exceeded anything we had seen in our long search for the perfect land.” Over the last three years, Lauren and Shawn say they have learned to trust God completely. “We have seen the power of prayer, and while it can still be hard to trust sometimes, He has always proven faithful and His ways and timing are always perfect. His closed doors led to an incredible open door. We are so thankful that the other properties didn’t work out for us.” This twenty-seven acre property hosts three pre-existing houses: the Manor House, the Sandlewood Manor Offices and the Grooms Quarters. Other unique features include a tree-lined driveway, beautiful fountains, a one-acre pond with a walkout pier and gazebo, a pool and hot tub with an outdoor kitchen, an inviting lounge for parents and grandparents, three full suites for overnight accommodations, an in-house theater, acres of pasture enjoyed by Sandlewood’s beautiful horses, and a multi-century old oak tree and serene pecan orchard that are perfect options for outdoor ceremonies. Visitors have shared the owners’ sentiments; “The intricate details of the estate home are magnificent and the beauty and serenity here are awe-inspiring.” The estate will include a nearly 10,000 square-foot ballroom including a gourmet kitchen able to accommodate a maximum capacity of 400 people. As residents of Splendora, we believed that our small, gorgeous East Texas town lacked a distinctive attraction that would suit the wedding and event needs of our local and adjacent communities. We established Splendora Wedding and Event Center in response to this need. The need for an event hall that can host weddings of all sizes in our area has long been recognized, and couples in our area no longer have to travel an hour (or more) to the nearest large city. After discovering this lonely piece of property with the ideal-sized pond, we had visions of it being adorned with gorgeous, flowing fountains that would serve as a romantic background for the most unforgettable bridal/wedding scenes ever seen in the area.
