Built in 1938 by Civilian Conservation Corps Company 576, the lodge is considered one of the world's largest structures constructed from wormy American chestnut, with a sandstone floor and fireplaces hewn from locally quarried Berea Sandstone. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and represents a distinctive example of CCC "parkitecture," characterized by horizontal lines, low silhouettes, and the use of natural regional materials. The centerpiece of the lodge is the 4,000-square-foot Great Hall, which accommodates up to 200 seated guests beneath exposed beams and a mason jar chandelier. A screened-in porch adjoins the hall, looking out over a rolling meadow.
