Rock Lake Ranch is a working ranch owned and operated by the Geffert family, which has been in the family for several generations. They are sixth generation Texans who take tremendous pleasure in their ancestors and the history of their home state. This gorgeous property, which was named after Rock Lake Creek, was formerly a camping area for Native Americans who were lured to the spring-fed creek that cut through the exposed sandstone cliffs. The Gefferts' great-grandparents came in the Piedmont area in the mid-1850s, when they were born. During the 1920s, their grandparents, Annie Lee and Johnny Churchwell, were still operating a self-sufficient farmhouse on the acreage they inherited. The Writer's Cottage, a shotgun-style residence built in the early 1900s in Houston's Fourth Ward, was formerly a popular hangout for writers. When it was transported to the ranch in 2005, it had been authentically restored by volunteers and professionals from Historic Houston. The Old Gibbons Creek bridge, a steel-truss bridge built in the early twentieth century and affectionately known as the "Shanghai Bridge" by locals, originally stood a few miles away. It had been abandoned since the 1980s, but it was relocated and rebuilt in 2009, and it now serves as a picturesque gateway to the Waterfront Pavilion and other outdoor spaces at Rock Lake Ranch. There are still remnants of their grandparents' first home on Rock Lake Ranch, including the Allen House and wooden barn area, as well as the old well house and cistern where their grandparents' original farmhouse previously stood. The Barnhill Complex is a multi-purpose conference and event center located midway between Houston and Austin. The Simon Theatre, which opened in 1925 and was designed in the majestic Beaux-Arts Classical Revival architectural style, provided a magnificent venue for many theater events, film screenings, and ballroom dances. To create the theatre for the city of Brenham, the James Simon family commissioned Houston architect Alfred C. Celebrate at Bernhardt Winery: Holiday Parties, Bridal Showers, Baby Showers, Birthday Parties, Anniversary and other excuses to party! We have a lovely indoor/outdoor location with twenty acres of planted vineyards and century-old native Pecan trees where you can host your event. The new Soleil Room, with its adjacent courtyard, is ideal for a small celebration with family and friends, accommodating up to 48 people. During regular tasting room hours and after-hours events, room rental fees are available. We offer options to bring in your own food or have us design a customized menu for your event! (Providing your own catering is limited. Water, tea and soft drink service required.) Venue Rental Package: Exclusive use of our main events room and north lawn at our Tuscany-styled winery on our lushly manicured twenty-acre grounds and vineyard is included in our venue rental package. The wedding ceremony is usually held outside in our beautifully landscaped wedding venue with views of rolling hills and valleys, or in our tiny Courtyard after hours. The wedding ceremony can also be conducted inside in our Main Events Room overlooking lush green lawns or in the winery surrounded by barrels and wine tanks decorated with flowers and plants creating a very unique setting. The bridal party has use of our charming Bed & Breakfast for dressing.
