Yoshie Akiba, the creator and namesake of Yoshie's, opened a tiny sushi bar in North Berkeley in 1972 with her two best friends Kaz Kajimura, a journalist and carpenter, and Hiroyuki Hori, a painter and Japanese cook. Yoshi's acquired a reputation as the Bay Area's top site for superb Japanese cuisine and jazz music over the following 40 years, becoming one of the world's most regarded jazz venues. Yoshi's is now a 17,000-square-foot award-winning 310-seat live performance venue with a state-of-the-art sound system and design in the middle of Oakland's Jack London Square. Discovery Bay Golf and Country Club is a private country club situated on 225 acres in Discovery Bay, California, at the eastern edge of the Contra Costa Valley and bordered by the San Joaquin Delta waterways. The club's 18-hole championship course was designed by Ted Robinson in 1986 and winds through scenic lakes fed by the Delta.
