The Prado is a National Historic Landmark in Balboa Park. After a comprehensive renovation and modernization, The Prado reopened in 2000. The building's architecture, artwork, sculptures, alcoves, gardens, and fountains were all restored during the three-year makeover. The venue's authenticity is enhanced by over two dozen original, hand-painted wooden stencil designs on doors, as well as the elaborate hand stenciled ceilings and beams. The "Women of Tehuantepec" sculpture by Donal Hord is still on display in the renovated central courtyard's fountain. No general admission fee is required to visit the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA), which is located in historic Balboa Park, and visitors are encouraged to make a donation in lieu of paying admission. MOPA is made accessible to everyone through this voluntary contribution policy, which is based on how much one wishes to contribute. The parking lots along Space Theater Way are available for patrons, and on-street parking is available along Park Blvd. Because parking can be difficult during peak hours or during events, additional parking lots are strategically placed throughout Balboa Park to accommodate visitors. THE SAN DIEGO HISTORY CENTER, located in historic Balboa Park, offers entertaining exhibitions that will complement any event, party, or celebration. Our museum features a large Atrium, Theater, Conference Room, and nine galleries in a lovely and expansive setting. Weddings, cocktail parties, social hours, meetings, and fundraisers are all possible at the museum. An event at the San Diego History Center means celebrating and enjoying the company of coworkers, friends, and family while surrounded by our exquisite location. It is strongly recommended, but not needed, to hire a wedding organizer. You are investing in professional experience and peace of mind by doing so. Weddings are not coordinated on-site at the History Center. We're happy to collaborate with a trusted network of Preferred Caterers who are required to provide food, beverage, and bar service for your event.
