Founded in 1923, Argyle Country Club is a member-owned private club set on a 150-acre property in Silver Spring, Maryland — the same land that once served as a working dairy farm before members converted the barn into a clubhouse and built the course themselves. The property alterations were first inspired by grape cultivation and a healthy lifestyle, but the family soon recognized they could provide more to the community, the grape growers, and the wine makers of Northern Virginia. With the help of the harvest gods, they were able to produce their first wine in 2019, and their vision for the land began to grow. In 2014, Jonathan Staples established Black Hops Farm with the intention of supplying locally grown hops to Virginia's burgeoning alcohol sector. This was the farm's primary motivation.
