    The City Tavern Club, which is located at the intersection of M Street and Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown, has long been a hub of activity in the city. As a result of its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places, the City Tavern Club operates as a non-profit organization with the mission of preserving one of Washington, D.C.'s oldest Federal-period buildings and the city's only remaining founding-era tavern. Construction on the City Tavern began in 1796 and the building served as both an inn and a major center of civic life in the surrounding area during the early Federal period. While in town, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and other Founding Fathers stopped by the Tavern for a drink or two. On June 6, 1800, President John Adams was honored at a banquet in the Long Room of the Tavern, where he delivered the following toast: "To the President of the United States of America." The Great Hall is a large, open space with a lot of natural light. The Great Hall, one of Georgetown's most sophisticated and elegant spaces, can accommodate up to 160 guests for a formal luncheon or dinner in a formal setting. 200 guests can be comfortably accommodated in splendor and history for a cocktail reception that your guests will never forget!
