In 1653, Walter Palmer, who lived in the Massachusetts Bay Colony after arriving from England in 1629, established a farm on some 230 acres of his land holdings surrounding Wequetequock Cove. Portions of Palmer’s original tract, including what is now Saltwater Farm Vineyard, continued to be used as farmland into the early decades of the 20th century, known then as the West Farm and owned by Herbert West, who was raised in North Stonington. In the late 1930s, William J. Foster opened a small community airport on the property. Foster built a hangar there, designed by John W. Lincoln, an architect and engineer living in Stonington and a man credited with sharing in the creation of the modern Quonset Hut. Foster Field, also known as Westone Airport, functioned as an airport for several years before the U.S. entry into World War II, when the government closed such airports for public use. In 1945, as the war was ending, Foster leased the property to Henry R. Palmer Jr. of Stonington, who offered commercial air service and flight training there. Palmer opened Aero-Marine Service at Foster Flying Field in February 1946. Palmer’s venture lasted only a couple of years and the hangar was used variously, and haphazardly, through the subsequent decades as warehouse, restaurant, light manufacturing facility and home to squatters.

Newport Car Museum occupies an 80,000-square-foot former missile manufacturing facility on seven acres in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where it has displayed a private collection of more than 100 automobiles since opening in 2017. The collection spans eight decades of modern industrial automotive design, from the 1950s to the present, organized into curated galleries for Ford/Shelby cars, Corvettes, World Cars, Porsches, Fin Cars, Muscle Cars, and Mopars. Mid-Century modern furniture is displayed throughout the galleries alongside the cars, extending the museum's design focus beyond the automobiles themselves. Potowomut Golf Club has been a fixture of Rhode Island golf since 1927, when a group of golfers built a private course on rolling terrain near Narragansett Bay, in the Potowomut section of Warwick. The 18-hole, par-71 course was designed by Walter Johnson, a disciple of architect Donald Ross, and has been carefully restored over the decades while staying true to its founding character: small, fast greens and a walking tradition that rewards strategy over length. While membership defines daily play at Potowomut, the club opens its course and clubhouse to non-members for weddings, corporate golf outings, and private celebrations. Golf outings get full course access with shotgun starts or tee times, practice facilities, and professional starter and ranger support, while receptions and dinners move into the clubhouse private dining room and patio, which overlooks the 18th green. Catering is handled in-house, with menus customized for each event and full bar service available, and every event is guided by a dedicated event coordinator from proposal through event day.

The museum is located on the banks of the Hudson River. In the midst of dozens of exceptional historic Herreshoff boats on an exceptional waterfront property overlooking Bristol Harbor, our facilities provide a beautiful and historic setting for your event. The Museum provides several attractive options for your meeting, social event, or wedding, including the Waterfront, Hall of Boats, Aria Gallery, Conference Room, and the second floor of the historic Burnside Building, among other locations. All year long, the Museum offers a variety of unique indoor and outdoor spaces that can accommodate groups ranging from 25 to 200 people. Industrial heaters are used in the fall and winter to keep your party warm and toasty even in the coldest of temperatures. A special place to infuse your dinner or reception with a unique vibe, the Hall of Boats can be found on the ground floor of the Museum and is fully handicap accessible. It is the heart of the Herreshoff collection and is located on the ground floor of the Museum. Your event will take place among more than a dozen magnificent antique wooden boats, all of which were built by the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, in this impressive space. Many of the boats are mounted on wheeled platforms that can be moved to accommodate and customize events of any size or configuration, including weddings. We have the capacity to accommodate 125 people for a seated dinner and 250 people for cocktails. On your request, a projection screen can be made available.
