As a National Trust for Historic Preservation site, we believe that all Americans have a right to learn about their own history by visiting the places that surround us. This historic site is dedicated to filling in the gaps of our cultural heritage, particularly the stories of enslaved and freed Black communities, as well as the stories of their descendants. Take a look at our interpretation themes. All of our properties are on 126 historic acres in Alexandria, Virginia, and they include two historic properties and one working farm. It was built in 1805, and it was given to Nelly Custis and Lawrence Lewis as a gift by President George Washington. The site was used as a plantation, and the couple enslaved over 90 people while operating it. The Pope-Leighey House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, is also located on the grounds, where visitors can explore and be inspired by the Usonian architecture and a vision for affordable, well-designed housing that Wright envisioned. We co-own the land with our partner, Arcadia Farm for Sustainable Agriculture, whose mission is to create a more equitable and sustainable local food system in the greater Los Angeles area. Our activities are spread out throughout the grounds and trails, and they are designed to promote learning as well as wellbeing as well as respite and enjoyment of the natural environment and its history. Immersive experiences, exhibitions, performances, and thought-provoking art are used to bring these stories and discussions to life. Across the grounds of Woodlawn and Pope-Leighey House, two historic homes situated on 120 acres of agricultural land farmed by our non-profit partner Arcadia, are intertwined tales of community transformation. The Old Manassas Courthouse is a restored 19th-century courthouse at the corner of Grant Avenue and Lee Avenue in Old Town Manassas, Virginia. Built as Prince William County's fifth courthouse, the building served as the county seat from 1894 until 1982 before being restored and reopening to the public in 2001. Upstairs, the original courtroom has been rehabilitated into a ballroom that hosts meetings, receptions, and private celebrations for up to 100 guests, with tables and chairs provided. The surrounding grounds carry their own history: Civil War-era cannons and a commemorative monument remain on site, marking the courthouse's role as the location of the 1911 Peace Jubilee, when President Taft stood on the grounds to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the First Battle of Manassas. Set in Old Town Manassas, the courthouse is within reach of the area's restaurants, museums, and shops, making it a fitting choice for a historic-backdrop celebration close to the city's other landmarks.

Old Town Hall is a stately Colonial Revival building at the heart of the nationally recognized City of Fairfax Historic District. Built in 1900 by Joseph E. Willard — later lieutenant governor of Virginia and U.S. ambassador to Spain — the hall was presented to the Town of Fairfax in 1902 and quickly became the center of Fairfax social life. Its neo-classical design combines Tuscan order columns with Federal-style details, including a fanlight window over the front doors and round-headed gabled dormers. The venue offers two rentable levels: a Main Floor accommodating up to 150 guests and an Upper Level for up to 120, suited to weddings, private parties, and meetings. Adjacent to the hall, the Kitty Pozer Garden offers a shaded, perennial-filled setting for photos, while the neighboring Old Town Square — with its splash pad, pergola, and patio furniture — can be reserved in conjunction with the hall for ceremonies and cocktail hours.

The Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center sits in the heart of the City of Fairfax, adjacent to Van Dyck Park and within walking distance of Old Town Fairfax. Operated by the City of Fairfax, the community center offers three flexible rental spaces suited to everything from an intimate meeting to a wedding reception. The Performance Space is the center's largest room, with a wood dance floor and room for up to 333 seated guests or 500 for a standing reception when rented in full; it can also be rented as a half-space accommodating 167 seated or 250 standing. The Mason Family Rehearsal Space holds up to 70 guests, and the Greenfield Family Art Room accommodates up to 60, giving planners smaller options for rehearsal dinners, meetings, and private parties alongside the center's larger events. Rentals include tables and chairs, and the venue is suited to weddings, large events, meetings, and artistic performances, with rental hours extending into the evening on weekends.

Historic Blenheim is a Civil War-era estate in the City of Fairfax, Virginia, operated by the City as an event venue and interpretive center. The centerpiece is a Greek-Revival/Georgian brick house built around 1859 for the Willcoxon family, where Federal soldiers left graffiti on the interior walls during the winter of 1862-63 — a detail that has made the property a stop on both the Virginia Civil War Trails and the Northern Virginia Graffiti Trail. The adjoining Civil War Interpretive Center houses a gallery with a full-sized replica of the house's attic and glass walls that look out over the historic grounds. Set on 12 secluded acres, the property combines that historic backdrop with modern event amenities, making it suited to weddings, anniversary parties, bar and bat mitzvahs, and meetings alike — even a routine meeting takes on a different character in the space. Events can move between an indoor multipurpose room and atrium/lobby and outdoor spaces including a pergola terrace and veranda porch, with additional tent locations available across the grounds for larger gatherings.

This room simulates the feel of being outside without the need for a rain plan to be in place. The Presidential Room can accommodate up to 40 people. There are large windows in this semi-private room that provide a beautiful view of the Potomac. Featuring beautiful chandeliers, a fireplace, and leather seats, this room is sure to make you feel like a presidential guest in the White House! The Lafayette Room can accommodate up to 60 people. The most opulent of all our rooms, with a ballroom-like atmosphere. This room, in addition to having stunning views of the Potomac, is also decorated with exquisite chandeliers and exquisite furnishings. In our Lafayette room, which is adjacent to our patio, a portion of the space will be reserved for your event, as well (weather permitting). The Pergola Covered Patio can accommodate up to 55 people. For over 65 years, Springfield Golf & Country Club has been a private gathering place for members and their families in Springfield, Virginia, offering a golf course, tennis and racquets courts, a pool, and patio. Alongside its membership programs, the club hosts nonmember events such as weddings, galas, and seminars in its second-floor event spaces, with sponsorship by a member preferred but not required. The Grand Ballroom accommodates up to 220 guests for weddings, quinceañeras, and company holiday parties, with a chandelier, a large picture window overlooking the golf course, and access to a balcony with additional seating and lounge space. An airwall can divide the room into Ballroom A and Ballroom B for smaller gatherings, each with its own bar and views of the course. The club's culinary team offers plated and buffet dining, kids' menus, signature cocktails and mocktails, and desserts from an in-house pastry chef, with wedding cakes and other treats prepared on-site rather than delivered.
