The COMPASS BINNACLE ON THE ROOFTOP COMPLETES THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS ROOFTOP. The Capitol View at 400 hosted its first event on January 3, 2013, and it was a spectacular success. A beautiful reception for 250 guests was held despite freezing temperatures outside (the temperature outside was 30 degrees). On this cold winter night, the views looking out over the city were absolutely breathtaking. Throughout the evening, the guests were treated to a memorable evening of jazz music, which marked the beginning of a new season in Washington, D.C. It was in May of 2011 that the design for this new rooftop began, and it began with a gravel roof that was similar in appearance to the other tower at this location. The building, which is located at 400 – 444 North Capitol Street, NW in the heart of Capitol Hill, can be reached by public transportation. When the building was constructed, its owners wanted to provide visitors with a chance to take in one of the most spectacular views of the nation's capital. There are only a handful of rooftop venues in Washington that provide spectacular views, and each one is unique in its own way. From Union Station, we have a panoramic view that stretches 300 degrees across the city, taking in the Library of Congress, the Capitol Dome, and the Washington Monument. And anyone who has been to Washington knows that the view is even more spectacular as the sun sets and the monuments come to life with illumination. When we first opened our doors in July 2018, we were excited to provide a lively bar scene, daily happy hour, spacious private event and outdoor spaces, and delectable Tex-Mex cuisine. Since 2014, our sister restaurant, Mission Dupont, has been serving up a mean margarita and some seriously tasty tacos. The goal of our restaurant is to provide a bustling bar scene, comfortable dining, and versatile private event spaces that can accommodate groups of all sizes, and we refuse to believe that a restaurant can serve only one purpose. Our spaces are designed to be welcoming for brunch, happy hour, dinner, and private events, as well as for those looking to unwind in a vibrant weekend late-night atmosphere on Saturday and Sunday nights. On Friday and Saturday nights, after dinner and game watching have concluded, we welcome some of the best DJs in the city to keep the party going until the wee hours of the morning. Located in a two-story atrium with the feel of an outdoor courtyard, the first of our four bars is the perfect place to start your night. A two-story tower with a view of the plaza bar is surrounded by a long and winding staircase. The second level is anchored by DC's largest bar, which measures 150 feet in length and is flanked by six garage doors that open onto large outdoor balconies. The main dining room, which includes a bar and balconies, is located on the second floor as well as the bar. The fourth bar in the restaurant is located in a private dining and event space. We strive to provide a welcoming environment for groups of all sizes, budgets, and types, ranging from small 15-person birthday parties to large-scale corporate buyouts and retreats.
