Our History The Club at Castlewood traces its origins to the famous Hacienda del Pozo de Verona estate, which was built by George and Phoebe Hearst, the parents of publishing mogul William Randolph Hearst. From 1891 to 1919, Phoebe Hearst's Hacienda, created by Julia Morgan, served as her house and sanctuary. At "the house of hospitality." hosting parties and gatherings for up to 300 people was normal. In the 53 room mansion, the Hearst's reputation for throwing a grand party was certainly upheld. Local businessmen bought the land in 1924, and the mansion served as the clubhouse for the original Castlewood Country Club. The name was chosen because it matched Phoebe's home's wooded hills and castle like aspect. Private Events at The Club at Castlewood: There is no such thing as a huge plan or a little gathering. Casa Bella, located in the heart of small downtown Sunol, provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to organize events in a setting that combines old world splendor - including a vintage steam railway station - with breathtaking views of Pleasanton Ridge and the rolling hills of Sunol. During the summer, our ceremonies are held outside on our brick patio, beneath a magnificent big pergola, and surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of Sunol. Our raw wood pergola can be adorned in a variety of ways, including with chandeliers, drapes, flowers, and other decorative elements. Guglielmo Winery is a family-owned estate winery founded in 1925 by Emilio Guglielmo, now operated by third- and fourth-generation family members on 50 acres of vineyards in Morgan Hill, California. Nestled in the Santa Clara Valley appellation — about 20 minutes south of San José — the property pairs working winery production with a warm, Italian-inspired tasting room featuring stone walls, wooden beams, and terracotta tile. For private events, the winery offers two distinct spaces. Villa Emile Event Center is an outdoor venue set among the vineyards, accommodating 50 to 300 guests beneath a permanent grand tent with string lighting and a dedicated stage, ceremony area, cocktail space, and dance floor all in close proximity. Alameda County Fairgrounds is a 267-acre event destination in Pleasanton, California, positioned at the I-680/I-580 interchange in the heart of the East Bay.
