From sweeping views of the Hudson River, to the raw, structural elements from the elevated railway’s industrial past, the High Line provides a oneof-a-kind experience in an unrivaled New York City setting. The High Line is an elevated freight rail line turned hybrid public space on Manhattan’s West Side. Founded in 1999 by two community residents, Friends of the High Line fought for the High Line’s preservation and transformation at a time when the historic structure was under threat of demolition. In 2009, the High Line was revived as the innovative park you see today. Friends of the High Line is now the nonprofit conservancy that maintains, operates, and programs the High Line in partnership with the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation. We are accepting bookings for your special event, such as: * Weddings * Baby Showers * Bridal Showers * Friendsgiving * Other Private Events Our space comfortably seats 20 people for a sit down dinner and up to 40 people for a standing cocktail event. Chic but sophisticated, it looks great in photographs. The natural light is beautiful! To keep our space affordable, set up and clean up is up to you. You may move items, we just ask that you please return them to their original place. Please note that the decorations in the space (such as the swooping cloth pictured in the photograph) changes in accordance with the season. We'd be happy to provide you with information about the specific decorations during your rental time. We do not provide speakers or a sound system. Renters can bring a portable speaker from home for background music. Loud music is not allowed (i.e. if you want to hire a DJ, we are probably not the venue for you). Renters are expected to be respectful of neighbors and keep reasonable noise levels at all times.

In 1653, Walter Palmer, who lived in the Massachusetts Bay Colony after arriving from England in 1629, established a farm on some 230 acres of his land holdings surrounding Wequetequock Cove. Portions of Palmer’s original tract, including what is now Saltwater Farm Vineyard, continued to be used as farmland into the early decades of the 20th century, known then as the West Farm and owned by Herbert West, who was raised in North Stonington. In the late 1930s, William J. Foster opened a small community airport on the property. Foster built a hangar there, designed by John W. Lincoln, an architect and engineer living in Stonington and a man credited with sharing in the creation of the modern Quonset Hut. Foster Field, also known as Westone Airport, functioned as an airport for several years before the U.S. entry into World War II, when the government closed such airports for public use. In 1945, as the war was ending, Foster leased the property to Henry R. Palmer Jr. of Stonington, who offered commercial air service and flight training there. Palmer opened Aero-Marine Service at Foster Flying Field in February 1946. Palmer’s venture lasted only a couple of years and the hangar was used variously, and haphazardly, through the subsequent decades as warehouse, restaurant, light manufacturing facility and home to squatters.
