Developed between 1902 and 1912 in traditional Beaux-Arts style, the Emigrant Industrial Savings Bank is designated as a New York City Landmark. Today, after a two year renovation and restoration effort by Culturespaces, Hall des Lumières not only preserves its architectural heritage, such as the marble bank tellers’ windows and interior, but also seamlessly integrates state-of-the-art technology for an unparalleled immersive experience. The venue is a multi-sensory experience, powered by video canvases that reflect onto the walls and floors, 130 video projectors, 54 speakers, and 22 subwoofers. Hall des Lumières totals 30,000 square feet over two levels featuring 40-foot-high ceilings and custom 100+-year-old lay lights. The venue has three separate exhibition areas: the ground floor (Historical), the lower level (Modern), & the former bank vault (Intimate). This unique fusion not only preserves the architectural and aesthetic heritage of the space but also infuses it with contemporary flair, ensuring guests enjoy both the charm of the past and the conveniences of the present. Hawksmoor was inspired by childhood memories of how good steak could taste. Founders Will Beckett and Huw Gott (friends since they were 11) opened the first Hawksmoor restaurant on London’s Commercial Street in 2006. More restaurants in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, New York, Liverpool and Dublin followed. Wang Contemporary occupies a landmarked 1924 Beaux-Arts building on the Bowery, restored as the future home of a private foundation dedicated to Asian contemporary art. The space brings together the architectural gravitas of old New York — original period detailing, cast stone facade, soaring proportions — with a minimal, atmosphere-first interior sensibility, resulting in a setting that feels both historically rooted and distinctly contemporary. As a foundation space rather than a conventional venue, Wang Contemporary offers a rare institutional context: exhibitions, artist dinners, cultural programming, and select private events set within an active center for Asian contemporary art in the heart of Chinatown.
