At its heart stands a 37-room Neoclassical Revival mansion built in 1899, surrounded by sprawling lawns, duck-filled ponds, and gardens whose design was informed by John McLaren, the landscape architect best known for shaping San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The estate is owned and operated by the City of Oakland's Parks, Recreation & Youth Development department and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The fully enclosed soundstage provides a quiet environment with overhead rigging, trap doors, and scenic automation.
