Built around 1912 and featuring original Douglas Fir post-and-beam construction, a concrete floor rare for the era, wood rafters, and a tin roof, the barn reflects more than a century of agricultural heritage rooted in the Sangamon River valley. The property spans six acres and includes a mix of historic outbuildings — a smokehouse, chicken coop, root cellar, and Quonset building — alongside natural landscapes that provide a backdrop of fields, wooded areas, and open sky. The Anderson Mansion Museum is a historic house museum and event venue operated by the Macoupin County Historical Society, located at 920 Breckenridge Street in Carlinville, Illinois. The mansion was built in 1883 and expanded in 1892 to its current three-story, thirteen-room form, blending Italianate, Queen Anne, and Stick Style architecture. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992 and has been maintained by the historical society since 1973. The museum campus extends well beyond the mansion itself, encompassing a rural church, one-room schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, granary, general store, and a range of other period structures — creating a living history complex that reflects Macoupin County's agricultural and small-town heritage. The building spans 6,400 square feet with an open floor plan, finished hardwood floors, and chandeliers overhead. Four entrances — including two 20-foot-wide drive-through doors — make load-in straightforward for large events. The space is fully heated and air-conditioned, with ADA-accessible restrooms and electric outlets on every beam. Equally at home hosting wedding receptions, concerts, trade shows, dog shows, high school proms, and meetings, the Artisans Building accommodates a wide range of gatherings with flexible, self-directed setup options.
