Built in 1927 and designed in the atmospheric style to evoke an outdoor Japanese theatre, the Redford Theatre is a historic Detroit movie palace that has been owned and operated by the Motor City Theatre Organ Society since 1977. The building retains its original Japanese-inspired murals, ornate chandelier lighting, and a 3-manual, 10-rank Barton pipe organ — installed when the theatre first opened to accompany silent films. The main auditorium seats 1,610 guests across a main floor, loge, and balcony, with no supporting pillars to obstruct sightlines from any seat. The 40-foot-wide proscenium stage is backed by a full 4-story dressing room tower with multiple rooms and restrooms.
