Grassy Hill Country Club is a public championship golf and event facility set in the rolling hills of southern Connecticut. The clubhouse hosts weddings and private events for groups ranging from intimate gatherings to receptions of up to 375 guests, with a portfolio of flexible banquet spaces that can be configured separately or combined. The Main Ballroom features a coffered ceiling accented by crown molding and brass chandeliers, and opens to a formal foyer finished with stately columns, crystal chandeliers, and Italian marble flooring. Two additional rooms — The Twilight Room, overlooking the 9th green, and The Sunset Horizon Room, with views of the Rock Patio — seat up to 150 and 200 guests respectively. Outdoor ceremonies are hosted in a canopied courtyard anchored by a garden gazebo, with cocktail receptions available on the adjoining patio. The Woodlea Clubhouse was once a Vanderbilt Mansion that was constructed in 1892 and held by Colonel Elliot Fitch Shephard. Colonel Shephard was the founder of the New York Bar Association as well as the proprietor of the journal Mail and Express. 1910 saw the purchase of the mansion by Frank Vanderlip and William Rockefeller. The following year, 1911, saw the establishment of the Sleepy Hollow Country Club by a board of directors that included John Jacob Astor IV, Cornelius Vanderbilt III, Edward Julius Berwind, and a number of other notable individuals. The Sleepy Hollow Country Club has seen several improvements and transformations throughout the course of its history, propelling it to the position of being one of the best-rated golf courses and country clubs not only in New York, but also in the United States. Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, founded in 2006 by Scott Vaccaro, produces a diverse range of beer genres, creating as many as one hundred different brands in a single year. Within a few years of launching, the brewery began to achieve significant recognition for their sour and barrel-aged beers, and in 2007 they received their first of nine GABF gold. Apart from award-winning sour beers, Captain Lawrence is well-known for brewing incredibly fresh India pale ales, highly palatable lagers, and a wide range of specialized craft beers, many of which have won awards. Bailey House and its surrounding grounds, which can accommodate up to 75 guests for wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions, and private events, has been transformed into a stunning venue. Current Rental Guidelines Effective 2021-2022 - All events will have a maximum capacity of 50 people or less, including children and excluding staff, through December 2021. This number will increase to 75 people as of January 2022. - All events are to be outside events only (ceremonies, receptions, etc.). - Indoor use of Bailey House is restricted to restroom access only and will not have access to the rest of the building. - The historic Bailey House will be undergoing major construction during the winter season of 2021-2022. As the building is owned by Nassau County, we cannot guarantee that the building will be functional come spring of 2022.
