Michael Smolak, the farm's owner, was present during his Aunt Willie's wedding on the farm when he was two years old. He had no idea at the time, back in 1954, that his wedding would mark the beginning of a long and lovely history of couples choosing Smolak Farms as their wedding location of choice. The farm has roots that date back as far as 4500 years, to the time when Native Americans originally settled on the property. The lovely rolling hills of orchards and farmland that cover 125 acres serve as the perfect setting for this extremely important bonding experience between two individuals. Being linked to nature and all of the beauty it has to offer is a great way to begin a union that brings together not only two people, but two families and two lives as a whole. The pine forest was a favorite picnic spot for Farmer Smolak and his family when they were children, and it has since become a destination for friends and relatives from all over the world. What stories those 100-year-old pines could tell about the many families who have enjoyed their shade and the countless couples who have exchanged holy vows beneath their canopy, if only they could communicate. Andover Inn is a classic New England hotel situated on the 500-acre campus of Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, 25 miles north of Boston. Built in 1930, the inn blends historic character with updated amenities across 30 guest rooms and a collection of event spaces suited for weddings, social celebrations, and corporate gatherings. Five distinct venues accommodate a range of group sizes and occasions. The Phillips Room and Stevens Room each seat up to 50 guests — the Phillips Room features crown moldings and windows on three sides overlooking the academy grounds, while the Stevens Room opens directly onto the back lawn, merging indoor and outdoor dining. Samuel's Private Event Space handles larger groups of up to 70 in a warm, restaurant-style setting. For more intimate needs, the Abbot Room and Boardroom seat 12 and 10 respectively. Black Swan Country Club is a 38,000-square-foot Victorian-style venue set on 120 acres in Georgetown, Massachusetts, on Boston's North Shore. The property combines a traditional New England setting with a country club ambiance, anchored by an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Philip Wogan. Two dedicated ballrooms — the Andover and the Essex — host weddings, corporate events, showers, proms, fundraisers, galas, and milestone celebrations. The Andover Ballroom accommodates up to 325 guests beneath cathedral ceilings with pewter chandeliers and walls of windows, while French doors open to a balcony overlooking the course and a waterfall. The Essex Ballroom seats up to 210 guests under similar cathedral ceilings with chandeliers and elegant window treatments, with its own private balcony and spacious dance floor. Steeple Hall occupies the second floor of Mission Oak Grill, housed in a converted Baptist church in historic Newburyport, Massachusetts. A 2002 renovation preserved the historic architecture while adding contemporary updates including new flooring, a refreshed bar, and a greenery wall. The Mansion at Glen Magna Farms has been described as "as close to heaven as one can go in this earth," with an estate of eleven acres. Routes 1 and 95 are less than a mile away. The venue is great for weddings. Formal gardens massed with colorful perennials, annuals, shrubs, and an arboretum make up the award-winning landscape. The Old Fashioned Garden is anchored by a replica of Francis Peabody's original Gazebo from 1840. If the ceremony takes place within the five-hour rental time range, there is no additional price for the ceremony on the premises. If the ceremony is held outside of the five-hour time frame, an overtime fee will be charged. The bridal party is welcome to attend two hours prior to the ceremony's start time to change and take photos. One hour of rehearsal time is included the day before the wedding. During the War of 1812, Joseph Peabody, the wealthiest Salem shipping trader of the time, purchased a twenty-acre Danvers property with a dwelling described as "perfectly prepared for a gentleman's seat" in every respect. The property developed from a twenty-acre acquisition to over three hundred and thirty acres, serving as the family's summer hideaway for a century and forty-four years. The house and gardens were substantially enlarged and enhanced by Ellen Peabody Endicott, Joseph Peabody's granddaughter, by 1892. In 1893, she commissioned Little, Browne and Moore of Boston to design the Mansion's enlargement to its characteristic colonial revival shape. Ellen Endicott received the Hunnewell Gold Medal from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society in 1926, the year before she died. This award was granted to the owner of a three-acre estate that was tastefully and effectively planted with rare and desired ornamental trees and shrubs to offer successful instances of science, talent, and good judgment in the adornment of the country mansion. Until his death in 1936, her son, William Crowninshield Endicott, Jr., continued to pour attention on the Farms, renovating and enhancing the estate. In 1901, he played a key role in bringing the Derby Summer House (built in 1794) to the site. Since 1968, the two-story Adamesque structure has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. The Danvers Historical Society purchased the core eleven acres of the site in 1963 and has attempted to restore the gardens and grounds to their original appearance in the early twentieth century.
